I can't change my party

So I have progressed to a point where I need to select my party, however I cannot. The camera is oriented in such a way so that I cannot see any characters, only the top of my head (here is a picture of it: http://img821.imageshack.us/i/problem2a.jpg/)

The mods I have are:

All the DLC

Combat Tweaks

Lock Bash

Extra Dog Slot

Jojjo Weapons

Natural Bodies All in One

Equal Love

Improved Atmosphere

Dragon Age Redesigned

If any more info is needed just let me know. I'm on 1.03 and this is not the steam version. Is this a mod conflict or something worse?

Hrm. Now this is a very odd glitch!

Something somewhere has altered the way that your character stage is set up.

most likely a conflict or corruption of a char_stage.are or char_stage.lst file(s). Unfortunately, you will Not find those files, using windows. They are packed up inside .erf files which windows can't open/read.

So here's the questions we ask to get the ball rolling-

what's changed? The character stage

When did it happen? What did you install, when you noticed the problem happening? Thats most likely the cause.

Also, you say all DLCs, does that include Darkspawn Chronicles and Leliana's Song? (i'm not sure if one of those might be the culprit, but will definitely reserve them as one of the last options to check!)

Take a look at the last things that you installed. Try uninstalling them one at a time and see if the problem persists. If you uninstall such and such, and it goes back to normal, you've found your culprit.

GUESSSING at which ones MIGHT cause a problem....

Dragon age Redesigned

Improved Atmosphere

Leliana's song

DS Chronicles

Yeah, I have all the DLC's, Lelianas song is off as it was giving me head morph troubles which I posted about in another thread. I never noticed what I installed to cause this happening, I installed mods before I made it to a change party screen.

I forgot to add, I added a few mods that I forgot about, I have Combat Tweaks and No Helmet Hack installed as well (both installed before I had the ability to change parties). I'll check those that you suggested and see if it solves the problem.

EDIT:

Weird... I disabled DS chronicles, didnt fix it. Disabled awakening, didnt fix it. Removed redesigned didnt fix it. Removed improved atmosphere, didnt fix it. :S

The only mod folders left in my override folder are

CombatTweaks

EqualLove

NB all in one

Jojjo Weapons

Larger Convo text

More_Hairstyles

I'm at a bit of a loss now :S

I really dont think that awakening would do it. It's charstage is in a completely different area of your hard drive, and doesnt come into play unless you switch campaigns.

Hrm. Yeah, this one is kind of a twister.

Try this. It might sound a lil scary, but its not that bad. All you'll have to do is reset some of your custom settings. Like video resolution, graphics levels, and stuff like that.

Go into documents/bioware/dragonage/settings.

locate dragonage.ini file and cut and paste it from the folder. paste it into another area of your hard drive for a backup. Do not add another copy back into your settings folder.

Start up the game and wait for a minute as it rebuilds the dragonage.ini file. (just shows as extra loading time)

dont bother with your settings yet, as this might not work. Go into the game and hit the character selection screen.

If this doesnt work, then close the game, paste your dragonage.ini file back into your settings folder to get your original settings back.

I'm kinda out of options beyond that. Other than MAYBE uninstalling Leliana's song. I dunno why I suspect that one, but I just know that there's been a lot of issues with that DLC. And then maybe Chronicles. Because I dont think that ANY of the other mods you're running has ANY affect on the charstage area.

:(

Darn this is weird. So I even went so far as to empty my override folder an still no go. Deactivated all dlc in the modmanager and still messed. Uninstalled leliannas song and still no go....

Could it be the patch I installed to carry over dragon age dlc to awakening?

Is there a way I can get this file that's obviously messed up to replace? (or put in my override?) Is there a mod that has a new charstage that I could use in place of this one or is a reinstall my only option at this point?

OMG I swear- my brain is NOT working right these days. I dunno why I didnt think of that. I swear I'm going braindead!

There's a couple of mods that I know of that have new character stages. Enigma Battle Dungeon and Party Recruiting. Enigma is a player made adventure (can be quite challenging, and is very fun) that has two new (very basic) characters in it for the player to recruit. Party Recruiting adds several new (very basic) characters to an area that can be recruited by the player. Both mods use a new characterstage (incompatible with each other) that you could try using. Tho I will mention that the stages are set up just a little bit different, so you may notice that your usual teammates arent standing in their usual spots in the selection screen.

http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=315 Enigma

http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=740 Party Recruiting

When I say very basic, I mean that they dont have very much in the way of dialog, dont have banters, they basically just fight. Tho I can honestly say that this is rather refreshing. Having members in your team that don't stand around and complain at you because you did such and such, or worry about who's going to disapprove of what, is kinda nice!

I havent heard of any issues like this with the OC in awakening mod.

Other than this, the only thing that I can think of is to reinstall :(

I'll give it a shot, thanks! :)

EDIT:

*sigh*

Looks like I'm reinstalling.

Hopefully it will work this time.

Either its still bugged after a reinstall or I cant use my old save. I'm going to try starting a new character and see what happens. (No Patches dlc or mods installed atm, just wanting to check this)

Yeah it was the save. Works fine now. Next step is reinstalling all my mods and DLC one by one and checking to see if I can find the culprit. Thanks for your help Darkewolf, I'll post back here if I run into more problems :D

UGH, I am really sorry to hear that it was such a headache to get working. I AM glad to hear that you got it sorted out tho. Hopefully that won't re-occur.

I'm curious, were you using any console commands? I dont think that a bug like that could come from the console, but it popped into my head, so thought that I'd ask.

And had you been using the toolset? I know that sometimes when you leave it's cache files in there, that it can cause bugs.

(Wish that I woulda thought of these two things earlier... like I said, my brain is taking a vacation lately...........)

Nope havent played around with the console, havent used the toolset either (I wouldnt even know where to begin :P)

Regardless, I successfully got ALL my DLC installed and I'm patched to 1.04 now. Going to re-do my mods tomorrow and see how it goes. Its looking like all it was, was a problem while installing/patching. As long as it doesnt come back I'll be happy :D

Thanks for your help DarkeWolf! :D

Huh I just got this problem with my new char too. No idea whats causing it. Tried the exact same mods/dlc list on a different save, and the party selection screen works fine. So any updates on what the culprit is?

EDIT: Making a new char fixed this problem... I updated the DLC Import to Awakening patch recently, and those fixes seem to only take effect on a new save as well. So, I guess I killed two birds with one stone, so to speak.
