New Lands in the CS

I've seen a tutorial for this on the Construction Wiki, but I can't seem to find it now that I need it.

 

No doubt anyone else that has made a new land has noticed that when they go to the area in-game, there are textures missing some distance out in the ocean. I'm not sure if these are considered distant textures, though I'd assume not because when I swim out towards their location, they don't appear (I appear to be swimming in air, which you can do normally in-game if you know where to go).

 

Any tips or guides on this dilemma? It's been one of the things keeping me from releasing more mods.

I think it means that cell doesn't actually exist.

 

Try going to these locations in the render window and it should generate flat land there as well as water.

 

 

Or it could mean that the land does exist, but you never generated LOD meshes for that quad or cell. Go to the heightmap editor, select the problem areas and save the texture.

 

 

I'm only guessing here. I'm very new to the land generating stuff. :wacko:

In the CS, I always design my lands by render window (I like to do it by hand, feels like I'm working clay). I may have to do as you suggested and generate LOD for each one (I'll have to go in game and record the coordinates, then find that spot in the CS). It's not that the cells don't show up, it's that the water texture (when you travel to that cell in game, it still has the properties of water, but no textures for the water in that cell) simply doesn't show up above or below the water. One of the mods I'm working on is a small series of islands and it kind of ruins the immersion to look out over what should be the beautiful sunset over the ocean, only to see the sun and squares of the ocean missing. I'll get some screen shots.
