Family sword mesh

Recommended Posts

If it is possible, can anybody tell me what file i would have to edit to change the family sword mesh? I am assuming it would be a .uti, but i really don't know, I am very new to doing any kind of modding.

to edit the mesh you would have to extract the meshs which would be located at

C:\Program Files\Dragon Age\packages\core\data

it would be under, modelhieracies and modelmeshdata, you would also need the texture too which would be located at

C:\Program Files\Dragon Age\packages\core\textures

i dont know what it would be called, but your best bet is go into toolset and look for the item, but it will use the same textures as longsword 3 as i just looked

Heyas Otter!

Easiest way to go about it is to use a program called DaTool. http://social.bioware.com/project/41/

Very simple to use program that will let you export meshes and texture files for DA. Tho, in order to view exported items you have to have them in the same folder that you installed datool to.

family sword uses the same model as the "warden" sword, and is listed as w_lsw_ls03a

After downloading datool just put it into it's own folder, copy the exe file, and then paste a shortcut on your desktop. the open it up, click on file/browse/weapons. Use the ctrl (control) and arrow keys between your keyboard and numberpad on your keyboard to scroll thru them.

To export them, click on File/Save all OR if you did an in-program rescale on them, chose file/save modified

Now, that said, they DO export as .msh files (the format that DA uses) so if you're going to be doing any 3d modeling on them, you'll need the .msh compatibility plugin script for blender, 3dsmax/max for whichever prog you're using. ;)

Also wanna mention that it can't crack .erf files. So if you decide that you want to try to use this tool on DLC items, You'll have to extract them from the DLC's erf files in toolset FIRST. Which, can be difficult, since some those are encrypted/locked.

The .uti file doesnt have any of the mesh info in it, other than what model the weapon uses. .uti files contain the statistic information, such as what material it's made of, what bonuses it has, if it has any class/character restrictions, stuff like that.

Hope this helps :)

some dlc items arnt locked, like i extracted erf files of blood dragon armor and was able to edit it a bit

True. I forgot about that. Thanks so much for the correction Chibi :) Edited my original post to reflect that.

Yeah, some of them are, others aren't. I know that warden's keep and Ostagar are locked. The ones that just add items most likely will be ok.
