Problem with the Ritual of Mania

I can't find the answer anywhere, and the Gamefaqs board hasn't been posted on in so long that the topics are all locked, so I don't know where else to ask. No help board here, so I'm hoping this is the right place...

 

I've decided I want to take over Mania, I'm in the kitchen with the greenmote... and there's nothing there. Both plates are labeled as metal plates (faq I was using said they'd be labeled as his dinner) and there's no wine on the shelf. The faq said I simply have to activate them, but they're not there. Other walkthroughs just say to poison it. It's about 3:30 in the afternoon- well before it's been taken for him to eat. Am I missing something? Did I mess up at some point? Am I just screwed? Is there something I can do to off him anyway and get the blood? I'm thoroughly stumped.

 

Edit: Just found out; the meal/wine is apparently stuck on the dinner table, and won't go back to the kitchen.

There seems to be a problem with sneaking Greenmote into Thadon's meal where an activation option is not available.

• This appears to be due to the time of the day you attempt to activate it. If too early or too late it will not be available. Try to enter the area around 4pm game time to place the greenmote. Once Thadon's assistants begin to leave the area, the window of opportunity is over for the day.
