door linking?

I'm attempting to make a mod right now (just simple, floating house, no meshes or anything) and i'm using the persistent referencing and "select reference in render window) but i just can't get it to work most of the time and its very, very annoying. occasionally it will work beautifully but about 70 percent of the time, the door marker shows but i can't move it at all and the game doesn't recognize it (the door is just a useless object that does nothing). other times, it will look like it worked in cs (i can position the marker, etc) but again, it doesn't work in the game. what could i possibly be doing wrong? i've tried different doors, checking the teleport and persistent referencing boxes in various orders, and still nothing.

This is a very confusing aspect of the CS.

First of all, the reason you can't move the door marker is because the dialogue box for the marker's door is still open. You have to close it before you can position the marker.

I could be wrong about that, but I believe that's the reason.

As for not being able to select the reference in the render window, that may be caused by the same thing. You have to have all dialogue boxes closed except the one you're clicking the "Select Reference in Render Window" button in.

Again, I could be wrong, but I think that's the problem.

Here's a trick you can try if you just can't for the life of you get the door to select:

Let's say you want a door going in and out of a cave. Well, obviously, that's two doors in actuality. Let's call the door on the outside of the cave (the one you activate to enter) Door A. Let's call the door inside the cave (the one you activate to exit) Door B. You set them up nicely in each cell. You manage to get Door A to go into the cave, and position the marker where you want it on the inside of the cave next to Door B. But then you go to make Door B go back outside, but there's no listing for Door A in the cell list that comes up. How do you select that door so you can create and position the marker next to it outside? Why, you use "Select in Render Window" of course! But what's this? The damn crosshair is red and simply will not turn white so you can select it!!! Sound familiar?

That's where Door C comes in. Create a dummy door next to Door A, and then slide it down below the ground or something. (You might want to make it a different style of door. You'll never see it and you'll never click on it. Maybe it will show up then.) It's still in the cell and for some reason it does appear in the list of doors when you go back to Door B and try to select it in the list of doors. Door A isn't there, but Door C is. Make Door B go to Door C. Then position the marker next to Door A. Door C will have a dummy marker in the cave, so just place it next to the other one.

This is something I actually did. I can't remember if I described it exactly. It may simply have been that I was tired and cranky (Oblivion does that to me), and didn't realize there was still an extra dialogue box open. I was still new to the CS and door making.

Try that trick out. If none of what I said works, I'm sorry. It's the best I could remember. Haven't done much CS work recently....

thanks alot, that was a life saver. i never even thought about closing the dialog boxes lol. i absolutely hate all of the little nitpicking rules that you have to remember in cs. and that other trick is pretty useful to. i can remember a couple of times when that would have come in handy, i'll definitely remember it

oh, and while we're on the subject of markers, is there a reason why i can't seem to drag and drop the travel marker into my render screen?
