GummousHummus
I just started looking into this whole mod stuff, and I can't figure out how to use it at all. What do I do with .rar, .7z, .zip, or any of those extensions once i download them? and how do I use those mods when I'm playing oblivion? Like if if i were to download a new Elf Race mod from these forums, how do i change to that race? Please help me out here. it'll be much appreciated. RobCoPublicReassurance
Explaining all this is quite a tall order. Firstly, do you know where your Oblivion data files are, and do you have WinRar or 7zip?

Tomlong54210
http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/ <-- There is a new users guide at the bottom Important Locations - http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/?page=important_locations The Data folder is under the Oblivion install folder, default: Program Files\Oblivion Edit: Since you have Vista, if you plan to use mods, reinstall Oblivion to C:\Games. It will save you a lot of headaches. Just put that path for the install path during the setup process. (The folder probably does not already exist, and that is what you want.) This trick circumvents the UAC monitoring that interferes with various processes related to managing mods, and sometimes even running Oblivion itself. If i reinstall Oblivion, will I lose all my saved games?Nope. Oblivion's uninstall process does not touch the Documents\My Games\Oblivion folder. After patching the game (after reinstalling the game), unless you have the GOTY version, delete the Oblivion.ini file in that folder, and let the game generate a new one upon launching. Tomlong54210
After you reinstall and patch the game, follow the guide I linked. There is plenty of information there. It is better to go into the mod using process prepared; otherwise, you'll have lots of "fun" fixing problems.
