Skyrim’s Songs: Tales of Thine Exploits

A Note from Veri: This mod started out with me wishing Skyrim had more songs for the bards to sing and branched out into a new NPC and a reputation system. Basically, here it is:

I would love it if there were a character, preferably a bard who could live at the Bard’s College, who would write songs for the Dragonborn based on your exploits. Every action you make while on a quest will affect the song’s lyrics. For example, take the beginning quest in which you escape from Helgen. You choose to follow Hadvar (on the Imperial side) and the two of you make your way through Helgen Keep. The lyrics to that song might be something like this:

“As above the great beast bore down on the town, the prisoner fled to the Keep’s underground. An Imperial guard opened up the Keep door, and together they ran from the dragon’s great war.”

But if the player chose to do the scene again, this time following the Stormcloaks, the lyrics could change to something like this:

“As above the great beast bore down on the town, the prisoner fled to the Keep’s underground. A Stormcloak rebel escaped through the door, and together they ran from the dragon’s great war.”

(I’m not very good at lyrics, do try to forgive me.)

While the beginning quest isn’t very noteworthy of an achievement, the player can choose to travel to Solitude at any time to talk to the bard and get a new song written about their quests.

In addition, I was thinking there should be a quest in each town, something simple and preferably bard-centric, to convince the bard in that town to sing your praise-songs. Once you’ve helped the bard, they will sing your songs and you will gain reputation. As more and more towns hear your songs, people will begin to have influenced opinions based on what they hear in the songs. For example, hearing about your heroic deeds would make them more inclined to help you, but hearing about your rise to power in the Thieves’ Guild or Dark Brotherhood would make them watch you warily.

It would need to be voice-acted, though that bit can come later.

If anyone would like to code this, voice-act it, or simply put an idea about it forward, please comment or message me!

Here's an example of a choice the player might make and the songs that could be written:

Quest: In my Time of Need

Helping Saadia:

“There once was a Redguard woman, fleeing from those who wanted her dead.

Her enemies waited at Whiterun’s gate, locked out of the city with no food or bed.

Their quarry was hiding in Bannered Mare Inn, where she pled for help from a friend.

She said if their leader could be found and killed, their hunt would soon come to an end.

The hero travelled to Swindler’s Den, where the bandits were lying in wait.

Deep in the cave was Kematu the chief, who spoke of treachery and hate.

But his story was ended when our hero fought, for the honour of the Redguard woman who ran.

Upon the return, the woman was told- she finally could return home again."

Betraying Saadia:

“There once was a Redguard traitor, fleeing from those who wanted her dead.

Her pursuers waited at Whiterun’s gate, locked out of the city with no food or bed.

Their quarry was hiding in Bannered Mare Inn, where she pled for help from a friend.

But the hero travelled to Rorikstead, where the hunters were waiting for their quest’s end.

The men went to Whiterun and stood outside, where they were content in their wait.

Our hero walked into the Bannered Mare Inn, telling the criminal tales of escape.

Her story was ended when the criminal fought, for her life and her treachery to be spread.

Upon her death, the pursuers were told- they finally could return home again."

Etc.

ok, um, hope you don't mind some critque (I hate giving critiques to people's face, i feel so unqualified). Try structuring the song into verses. remember to keep it in the Bard-style, which means each verse is two lines, and has a smooth, short verse. and especially don't worry about it being grammatically correct.

Like, for the help Saadia version, on verses 1 + 2,

"There once was a Redguard woman, fleeing from those who wanted her dead.

Her enemies waited at Whiterun’s gate, locked out of the city with no food or bed."

how about instead it goes.

"There once was a redguard,

who was wanted dead."

At Whiterun's door, her enemies did wait,

locked out in the rain, without a bed"

the purpose of a melody is the rhythm. In fact... http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/teamt/oancitizen/between-the-lines/41299-between-the-lines-the-beatles

here, its a great tutorial on basic rhythm
