McMutton
Thanks, Road. I'll try some of those when I remember. I received my new stylus in the mail today, so I'm back in action. I've mostly finished the textures and such, but now I'm having a problem with the entire get-up looking like it's made of really shiny leather/latexhttp://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/Marshal_banana/Oblivion2010-08-0401-51-03-16.pnghttp://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l43/Marshal_banana/Oblivion2010-08-0401-50-57-13.pngIs it the normal map, you think? Maybe some data in NIFSkope? Also, the smoothing groups don't seem to be working anymore, despite them being active in Gmax.
Luminiari
It might be the normal map. Open it up in your image editor of choice and change the alpha channel to a solid black. That should fix it...
theRoadstroker
The Shininess come from the Alpha channel in the normal map (also called a Specular Map). Which is (in the Oblivion Engine) a black and white coloured map showing where you want and how much shine you want - the more white = more shininess , the more black = less shininess ,and any grey scale between - is 1 - 99% of shininess. You can change that (Im going to assume you use photoshop) by going to channels in the layer menu in PS and inside the channels you click the new layer button and either paste or draw your Specular map in side that layer/channel then you need to save it as a DXT3 ( for a more hard edge shine map) or DXT5 (not the normal map option) (for a more gradient shine map). I would not recommend at all to create a complete black specular map since that will make the outfit look extremely flat and boring, clothes in Real life does have a matte shine to them so I would go with a 25-35% grey to most of them. I can take a look at the model and the smoothing groups for you and see what's wrong if you can send me the model, (you can send me a link via PM if you like). cheers
McMutton
I have a specular map made already, so I just need to paste it onto the normal's alpha channel? How would I do that with GIMP?
theRoadstroker
yeah, the specular map goes in to the normal maps alpha channel, and I have really no idea how GIMP works but maybe some of these sites may give you the answer. http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=299229 http://docs.gimp.org/nl/gimp-layer-alpha-add.html http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=354976
