Thandal
Hi im new to dragon age and modding and i dont understand much about it such as im told to open my overdrive folder and open up a file in there but my overdrive folder is empty i don't know if it's because i use steam or somethings wrong with my comp just stupid stuff like that i cant figure out. This stuff is probably easy for you guys :PHi Edge! I just replied to almost this exact same question over on the "Geneneral Discussion" thread. Here's a copy of that reply: =========================== To answer your question, there are two basic types of mods for Dragon Age. 1. Standalone files that are placed in your "override" folder. The path for that folder (after a default installation of the game) is:"[user's documents folder]\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override" The things you put here, including subfolders containing more mod files, are used by "daorigins.exe" to, (as the name of the folder implies) override the original programming with the new stuff. To use a mod made this way, drop it (or a folder containing it) into the override folder. To remove the mod, delete the file/folder. Simple! 2. Dazip files. These are a collection of files compressed into a single ".dazip" because all the pieces need to be used together to make things work as intended. They are added to the game through the "daupdater.exe" program (installed automatically with the game into "[Program Files]\Dragon Age\bin_ship".) Obviously this is more complicated than the "copy-paste" of overrides. "dazips" also can't be as easily removed. The "built-in" mechanism allows you to "uncheck the box" when you start the game (see: "Downloadable Content --> Installed Content" screen) so that a particular dazip isn't "active" while you play, but complete removal is hard. That's one of the reasons that there are at least two good replacements for "daupdater" available here at Nexus. (Use the term "Manager" in the search box on the files page to find them.) So here's the link to the Files Section of the Forum: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/ Almost all decent mods have instructions for their installation and use, either in the "Description" part of the on-line posting, or in an included readme. You'll find TONS of enhanced game play, improved asthetics, and bug fixes here. Enjoy! ===========================
