Nightwolfhunter
I don't understand why. I'm following http://tesivpositive.animolious.com/index.php?page=preparing_for_mods that guide, but I can't OPEN the files. I can find and extract them to my games folder, but I can't actually OPEN them. Help!
Valkyrie
Are you trying to install the mods or just view whats in the file? What are you using to extract them?

Valkyrie
Copy the zipped file to your Oblivion/Data folder. Then extract. That should do it. I always keep a clean copy of the data folder stashed somewhere just in case installing a mod borks the game. You can always delete the messed up data folder and replace it with the clean one if things go bad.

The guide goes through learning how to use OBMM and make OMODs. Install your mods through that tool. The 7-zip archive opening issue is different. Is that yet resolved? My system can save the files, but then they jsut sit whereever they get saved. They can't be opened, they can't be run, because my machine can't read the file because it does not have the 7zip reader or something.

Do you have an entry for 7-zip in your Programs list? Did you run the 7-zip EXE after downloading it?
Nightwolfhunter
Snip! I thought I did. I have the 7-zip file manager in my start bar. so I am assuming that that is hat it needed to do. I was not instructed to restart after that, but just to be safe, once it finshed, I did so anyway. The problem then becomes not knowing exactly where ot extract them to, how to do that, or where to always find them. I did find them, and used the file manager to extract the files, but I did not see the option to MOVE those files somewhere else. And I'm sorry that I sounds like an idiot trying to explain all this. Using mod management tool really reduces the hassle, and OBMM is not hard to pick up once you start using it. 7-zip archives are just files, like any other files. You can click-and-drag or cut (or copy) and paste them wherever. The reason why I said put them elsewhere is because once you start managing your install, you will probably find clutter in the install folders extracting and unwanted. Just create a folder 'Oblivion Mods' at the same level as the Oblivion folder, and move the archives there (i.e., via cut and paste.) Now that 7-zip is working, you should be able to move through that guide; however, if any of the terms are unfamiliar to you, let me know and I can give you any necessary explanation. The site glossary is really incomplete right now, but it will not stay that way. I have just been so busy getting some of the content from the old site moved to the new site that I have yet to go through and consolidate all of the various terms. That will certainly remain an on-going process.
