yeldarb
The Steam version is a download from a company called Steam and does not need a disc to play. Retail is a cd/dvd from a store like the two disc GOTY edition. On my desktop I merged a copy of my original Oblivion with all of my mods and utilities with a new install in C:Games.I copied everything after C:Program Files\Bethesda Softworks and carefully merged them together to allow my new desktop icons to work with the older game files. soleguardian
Well first before I reinstall and such I just need to know two things. Will I need to reinstall obse? And will the mods I made still work? And I need to figure out which mod is causing the problems first.

Moving Oblivion will not break your mods, but it will help some (and some mod management utilities.)
BoloDigby
Most likely a dependent mod issue (as mentioned in the very first reply)--I had the same issue today--obse-launched game start crashed barely into the game load screen. Got rid of the last mod--some clothing mod not necessary for game play and things loaded fine. Research indicated I was missing an unknown parent mod that I couldn't immediately track down. Short of reinstall, I'd start deactivating mods within OBMM, uncheck all the armor/clothing/weapon mods that don't change gameplay, all the while reattempting obse-launch game start. My bet is eventually you will be able to launch Oblivion, and once there, immediately quit, take note of what you have active and then keep reactivating mods & relaunching obse game start until you experience the failure again. Once you track down the offending mod, delete it and if it is active at the site where you downloaded, add your experience to the comments section so that mod authors can continue to refine their works. Repeating wise words mentioned in many Mod places, only activate one mod at a time, ever. Restrain your excitement, as troubleshooting a game launch issue can ruin your day, and life is too short as it is.
Tomlong54210
That is very good advice. Taking a little more time during setup and testing can save a lot of troubleshooting time down the road.
soleguardian
When I uninstalled and reinstalled it to the games file it didn't delete the old files in program files

BoloDigby
It deleted my mods I made! I can't find them anywhere :/ this can't be good. I cam play my game again though Good to hear that you are back in Tamriel. When you delete mods using OBMM, they are ditched from the .\oblivion\data directory location. So, if you had no original source or worked on mods that were housed in the data directory, they are likely gone. I don't know if they get moved to the 'recycle' folder for potential recovery--you may want to look. Anywho, I always expand the mods I down load in another folder and then copy them; if I blow one away via OBMM, I can still find the .esp file back at the original folder location.
