zzmaguszz
Does anyone know why when I have graphics set to Medium some of my textures have that rainbow digital pixelated look , but when set to High, they look fine? I do have many mods, and texture packs, but just recently re-installed my game, and left out a few of the old mods, but for the most part, my old install was fine, never had texture problems like this before. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Edit- I took down the pictures, the problem was solved by compressing my textures with the "Optimzer Textures" app here on nexus, it's a very good utility tool, my game is much smoother now as well. luthienanarion
Most mod-added textures don't have mip-maps, which are embedded low-resolution versions of themselves. The game tries to display such data anyway, so garbage data is displayed. Always leave the texture size set to 'high' in the game options; the performance gains are very minimal, and (almost) all mod textures will break if you change this setting. I've never used any of the texture optimizer programs, but from your feedback I assume that they generate mipmap data for textures that don't have it. zzmaguszz
Hi Luthienanarion, Thanks for the explanation, it all makes sense now, and yes the texture optimizer program does create mipmaps, it is worth checking out if the need arises. I have to play on Medium if I want smooth game play, it's just that the game looks better with all the texture mods in my opinion, and I am at 117 mods, my game really starts to lag and stutter if I have it set to high and I want my actor, object fade, (LOD) settings pushed up. After I compressed my texture folder( medium compression setting) and BSA's that had textures in them, everything looked fine except the moon from EWI's hi res pack, which were the main textures that needed compressed/re-sized/(bipmaps?), optimize textures program from here on Nexus does a fantastic job, and it generally looks 99% as good. I usually install NMC small, and Poco Bueno, set the game to medium 1920x1080 res, and I'm okay, even though it looks better on High. However, with 117 mods I just get too much stutter with an Ati 4850 500mb graphics card, although I can play on High with a non modded vanilla play through. This time I also installed EWI, then Poco, then NMC, overwriting as I went along. To futher cut down on stutter/crashes/Lag, I use the 4g, anti-crash, anti-stutter, clean-Deluxe, Performance of the Gods, and follow the FO3 tweak guide I found using google. I use the program RadeonPro for GPU tweaks, and slightly overclock my GPU, I actually FINALLY have smooth game play with only a rare crash at 50-60 fps on this machine. Really my only problems with textures were Advanced Recon Gear neck and chest, certain eyelashes(strange), and the moon, all is resolved now, the compression didn't fix the moon so I installed a custom moon, but so far so good now. SORRY for long reply, my OCD has been on overdrive with this game lately, the last 3 months I worked hard on learning all I can about modding. Thanks again, you are always a great help!
