I have a program called j-zip to extract the meshes, textures, and the esp from the download and into my Oblivion\Data folder.I USE a program called Oblivion Mod Manager to convert the archive(downloaded mod) into an OMOD and install it by pressing activate on the OBMM menu. The help button on Oblivion Mod Manager is the "readme" for this utility. You also shuold ensure your game is patched to 1.20416, the two disc GOTY edition is patched to 1.20416 when both discs have been installed. Look at the pinned Topic in Oblivion Modification>General Mod Talk called Oblivion Modding Links for a good list of links on how to install mods and utilities. The search function on this Forum is good for finding out what kind of mistakes not to make and the better posters usually have links posted in thier responses for you to use if you are having the same problem as the Original Poster(OP). Try to install mods one at a time to aviod killing your game early, but this is hard not to do at first!

Don't worry about OMOD until you are skilled at installing mods. Follow the installation instructions in the readme of each mod you download. The better mods will have readmes and instructions. You need to make your Oblivion directory look like the structure of the directory in the compressed downloaded mod. You can refer back to the compressed copy to make sure the parts of the decompressed copy went to the right place. Your file structure if you do it right will be sort of like:

Oblivion\Data\.esp

Oblivion\Data\.esm

Oblivion\Data\.bsa

Oblivion\Data\meshes

Oblivion\Data\textures

Oblivion\Data\sound

Oblivion\Data\LOD

You will sometimes need to merge identically named folders. When the computer asks you if this is okay, say yes.
