Merged and Bashed patches

Hi everybody!

I have installed quite a big number of mods that add new items and edit leveled lists, and looking for a safe way of merging level lists so they could work together fine. I already read a few tutorials, but still would be grateful for you advice.

I’m not looking to merge mods themselves, just to create a safe merged patch so all the new items could be distributed across wasteland and NPCs.

So here’s what I usually do:

  1. Create a merged patch with a NVedit.
  2. Delete all the leveled lists/items info from merged patch.
  3. Rebuild bashed patch (merged patch is included in bashed patch, loaded just before the bashed patch).

That’s it.

But I’m still cannot figure out what options I should choose file creating bashed patch. As I do not merge the mods itself I only stick with the content checker and leveled list while creating the bashed patch. Should I also check other options like scripts, races, etc?

Thank you very much in advance!

Merged patches, as far as I understand, are for resolving conflicts between plugins that modify the same record. A bashed patch is used to lighten the load order; plugins which ONLY change records in other files and don't include new content of their own are mergeable patches, and can be combined into a single super-patch loaded at the end. (there's some other limitations to a bashed patch, but that's the gist) A merged patch can also be a mergeable patch. But the bashed patch will only do that if you tick the plugins in question under "Merge Patches" while rebuilding the Bashed Patch.

Mergeable patches can be a quick and easy way to sort out minor conflicts if you're handy with FNVEdit, and with a Bashed Patch you can have any number of mergeable patches which share a single entry on the load order. I've got about 110 mergeable patches, but I only need the game to load a single plugin to incorporate all their changes.

I'm not clear on entirely what all the other options do while building a bashed patch... I rather deliberately don't use the Form List merger, because some of my patches deliberately remove entries from other form lists, and using the form list merger would defeat the purpose. Tweak Settings allows for some simple tweaks, as you might expect, and I find it pretty useful... but I'm not clear what the effect of merging races/etc. is.

tl:dr; you should be using the Merge Patches option during the bashed rebuild. Read through the Tweak Settings list and see what looks interesting. Other than that, I'unno.
