redneck1st
Hi folks Ok I was having a problems with the Shale module where as I could get to the area and obtain the rod for shale but the area for where Shale was located wouldn't appear. So today I did a "Full Clean Install" of the game and all DLCs I also installed Stens armor, Break Lock and the DLC Transfer pack that lets you transfer your DLC items over to Awakening. Now when I installed the DLC Transfer Pack before the clean install it gave me an error which I come to find out it had to do with The Shale module and since it never worked right I decided to do a Clean install on another drive. So copied over the drive with the game un-installed the game not letting it save anything from the game and re-installed it on the 2nd drive. Everything appears to have installed Flawlessly. Even the DLC Transfer mod installed without any errors. Now the question that I have is this: Is there a way for which I can copy my saved games over to the 2nd drive and continue playing them from where I am now? Or will I have to start completly over with the new install? and unlock every thing again? Where is the DAO Saved game files? And do I just need to copy that file over to the 2nd drive and put it where it was on the first drive? Any help/feed back would be greatly appreciated ASAP! DarkeWolf
Heyas! Ugh, sorry to hear that you've been having to do this kind of work. But at least you've got it running correctly now.I'm gonna say that you shouldnt have to do anything about your savegames unless you accidentally deleted them during the install. They are located in documents/bioware/dragon age/characters/"charactername"/savesAs they're in your documents folder, there shouldnt be a need to move them, since that folder is accessible from from all the drives, and is the default location programmed into the game. Its also the default for where programs like da modder and da modmanager or even daupdater think it's where they are supposed to install content to. (IE- I Don't think that you should try moving those files in your documents folder to a new location ;) )
Thandal
I have repeatedly un-/re-installed and can report that one may move the "[User's Documents]\BioWare\Dragon Age\Characters" folder (which contains a separate "saves" folder within each character's own folder) back-and-forth at will. The only stipulation is that the game itself will only find the one in the "expected" location that was established during that particular install. But the CONTENTS of that folder can be a copy from any other install. (Usual disclaimers about YMMV, and things possibly not working -- especially if your saves were made when you had the "Sword of Instant Death", "Armor of Invulnerability", and "Anti-Chastity Belt" mods installed, but now you don't! :P ) I even made a mistake once and had wiped my [Characters] folder completely. Only discovered that I had done so when I fired things up and had only the "New Game" option. Poured in a copy from another location that I'd made before the uninstall, (everyone does that, right?) and everything was back the way it had been. Thandal
Oh, and I can't speak for the other programs that handle this, but "DAO Mod Manager" needs to get re-run in the "new" [User's Documents]\BioWare\Dragon Age\packages\core\override folder, even if you did a complete copy of [User's Documents]\BioWare\Dragon Age . Then any .dazips and overrides "re-activated" as well. Just took a few moments. ('Course I have all the mods stored independently and can pull them in easily.) First off I would like to thank both of you for your replies as I'm fully back up and playing again. Thandal your right you can in fact copy over the saved games as I did so from one drive to the other and have yet to come across any problems with it, Including any of the DLCs or mods for which I've got installed. Of course I've only got 3 of the non supported mods which are Stens armor, Lock Break and DLC Transfer. Was thinking of Downloading and installing the Cousland mod where you can go and take your castle back from Arl Howe. Not sure if that one's any good though. Now Thandal if I might ask what did you mean by the "DAO Mod Manager" needing to get re run? How do I need to do this here? Thanks again For the great help and feed back It really is appreciated as I enjoy the game and the mods folks put out. Well I'm off to finsh out the Sacred Urn's quest take care. Thandal
Now Thandal if I might ask what did you mean by the "DAO Mod Manager" needing to get re run? How do I need to do this here? My experience has been that even though the program "DAOModManager.exe" was in in my copied/reconstructed "...packages\core\override" folder, it didn't actually "work" until I went back to the original .rar and extracted it into the folder again, then placed/installed any .dazips and DAOModManager-packaged overrides in the appropriate (newly re-created) sub-folders as well. Might have just been a one-time thing (and I certainly could have been careless in my re-building of the environment after a full game un-/re-install) but doing it that way has always worked for me! Well that could be there but I didn't do that and so far things are working fine for me. Was wondering though if anyone here has Lelianna's Song DLC? I've got it installed and played fully through it for the armor. But I'm getting ready to go and Rescue the Queen and have yet to get her Companion quest even though her aproval rating is 98% right now. I've done all the others including shales; which I thought was one of the better ones.
