dodo_borgir
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and everytime I start it up, it refers to Windows 7 Basic abiet it doesnt affect gameplay of anysort, it infact enhances it It didnt do this before tho I had to make a clean install losing all mods and data etc.Thats what propted me to move onto Oblivion and I have not looked back, I still play with Fallout now and again but I is planning more stuff to add. Tho My game is only base game and patched to 1.7 with a few Mods that are only esps.I will see what happens when I patch it with the other ones as Well as Adding the DLCs See if this happens. I also made a clean install and tried to run with no mods or DLC still didn't work...Anyway, nice to see that it is working for someone. Now if I only could figure out what it is that crashes it... dodo_borgir
IAlright, so fallout crashes immediately on startup. Also, the Windows theme changes to standard.Don't know if that matters yet. This is a new one on me. It would have to go into the Windows preferences to actually change it. My guess is you changed the resolution to play, and it was not changed back when it crashed. And the theme you had was not compatible with the changed resolution so it went to the default. If so , the changed theme is a result of the crash and not really a problem. What version did you start with? and what was your upgrade sequence? what version do you have now? Do you have the disk or steam version? Yes. You are right it was the changing resolution.I realized it only happened since I never started the launcher after re-installing.However, all the tests I have made before were conducted with proper resolution and via the launcher. Then I had no changing themes.Well, at least now we know that that wasn't it. I have the disk version and have actually tried an endless number of upgrade sequences.I tried, vanilla from the disk. Then after failing I installed the first patch and after that failed the next. Also after this, I tried installing every patch onto vanilla, removing the game in between every patch. What I mean is:install game, install first patch, remove gameinstall game, install second patch, remove gameand so on. I'm basically trying to trouble shoot my way there :)
XRA
I have W7 64-bit Pro, and everything runs pretty smoothly for me as well. The only thing I'm tackling right now are the darned exclamation marks, which is all me.
bben46
You should only need one patch. If you have SI, use the latest patch for SI ONLY.If you do not have SI, use the latest patch for Oblivion ONLY.You cannot install one patch over another - it messes things up - as you seem to have found out. If you have applied any other patches the ONLY solution is a complete reinstall. Using the uninstall that comes on the disk does not uninstall everything, It leaves behind a lot of stuff that can cause problems when you reinstall. Use this procedure to fully uninstall , and to reinstall. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice. Nitor
Alright, so fallout crashes immediately on startup. What can one do in this situation? Try updating to the most recent version of 'Games for Windows Live' from Microsoft. I had a similar problem, but once I updated, Fallout 3 works great.
