Is there a way to preview NPC faces?

I'm working on creating a companion NPC and naturally I want her to be "just perfect" so it's a matter of tweaking here, tweaking there, etc. I'm wondering if there's a way to preview what an NPC's face will look like without having to start the game and go find the NPC. The preview window thing in the CS tends to... um, not look anything like what the actual NPC ends up looking like. So it's difficult to make tweaks in the CS when I know the face in the preview window won't look like the face in the game. I'm starting to get aggravated with making a teensy tiny little tweak and then waiting 5 minutes for the game to start up just so I can glance at the result and then shut the game down again. Also, after I've started\exited the game a dozen times or so in a five minute period, I end up needing to reboot my machine or things become very unstable.

How the hell did the TNR people manage this, anyway? There HAS to be an easier way to preview the face.

I use that in combination with a Vanilla save file. That way, after making edits in the CS, I can quickly loaded up a pre-set save in which to test the in-game lighting and such.
