snapperg
I just got a brand new computer. the asus with a 5750 ati graphics card, 8 gigs of ram, and a terrabyte of memory. so i reinstalled oblivion without mods to make sure everythings going good. when the launcher came up it said it automatically set my graphics to low quality, and i was like hell no. so i did a new game and without even paying attention started screwing with the video settings. when i restarted oblivion the dungeon was incredibly bright, like almost the walls are white. i tried to post pictures but its too big so im going to look for a website. This has never happened to me before. i have tried changing everything back and no matter what i change the wall stays the same. One person had this problem on answers.yahoo, didnt find the answer cause they all just said turn the brightness down, and he said that darker oblivion mods didnt work either. I have no idea why this isnt working. i also dont know if it was like this before i messed with the video settings, and i even reinstalled oblivion, so i dont know what to do. Valkyrie
Ok obviously you have turned down the brightness in the games video options. Your using an ATI card.... Try right clicking on the desktop and opening the catalyst control center. If I remember correctly there should be some settings in there for brightness. chaospearl
Well... I'm no LHammonds, but I might be able to help anyway. :) Your problem sounds like you're stuck in Lite Bright mode. It happens when you're using really low video settings; Oblivion turns it on by default. That shouldn't be happening with your machine... sounds like you need to check your drivers and\or the settings for your video card. In the mean time, to turn off Lite Bright, open the console and type TLB. Lite Bright mode Edit: Incidentally. I'm running a similar setup to yours, ATI Radeon 5870 card with a killer system. When I first installed Oblivion it set my graphics to the low settings, too. I don't know why it does that but obviously with that kind of machine you can easily run HDR on Ultra High detail without a problem. Just ignore what the game automatically sets. It's wrong. Move your video settings up as high as they'll go, and if you're having FPS problems (which you shouldn't unless you run a lot of mods) start moving the sliders down bit by bit until you reach a balance you're happy with. CorenYi
Edit: Incidentally. I'm running a similar setup to yours, ATI Radeon 5870 card with a killer system. I think that oblivion sets the default to low/moderate if it doesn't recognize the card from it's list of supported hardware. Which means newer cards get defaulted lower for some reason. At least that's what happened to me.
