Creative Alchemy

Hi guys.

I have a Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Pro sound card and I was just wondering about the correct operation of Alchemy.

I've installed Alchemy and loaded Fallout 3 into it via Game Path Directory, do I have to leave the program running on my desktop/minimize for it to have an affect or can I close the program completely after Loading FO3 into it?

Also, I'm running mods and therefore running FOMM so should I also add FOMM to ALchemys game list? or not? I thought I should (thinking it can't do any harm) What do you guys think?

ALSO. I've read about the setting sfor the registry key being HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREBethesda SoftworksFallout3Installed Path

However, my directory path is custom when I installed the game and looks like this:

E:\Games\Fallout 3

Do I need to change the directory setting in ALchemy (and if so, to what?) or leave it as

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREBethesda ??

What ALchemy actually does is place a .dll and .ini file in the directory the game is installed in. When the game runs it will automatically use the local dsound.dll instead of the one in the %SYSTEM% directory. Because of this the application does not need to run for it to take effect. To find out if it's working you can simply unplug your front speakers and hear if anything is coming out your surround speakers.

FOMM hooks the threads created by the fallout.exe process, so you do not need to apply it to that program.

The registry key will point to wherever the game is installed and not just the default directory. If you want to be sure you can use the absolute path instead. You can make sure it's installed by going to the game directory and seeing if the files dsound.dll and dsound.ini are there. It will create a log file in the same path so you can see if there are any problems.

Now I don't know if Fallout 3 actually needs ALchemy because I don't know which sound API it uses and I don't own it. If it uses OpenAL, FMOD, or software (Crysis, as technologically advanced it is, uses this :/) it isn't needed. Otherwise it is.
