Delta_010
Hi all. I'd like to ask some questions about FOMM and tweaks. .Is the "toggle archive invalidation" needed for mods such as Fook2 or FWE? Or Mart's Mutants Mod? .Do the inactive plugins still have effects on the active plugins? .Is it necessary to use the ini entries suggested for multicore machines? (I have a quad core system, but I don't know if those tweaks do anything) .Does FOMM ever clean up after itself when uninstalling/installing old/new plugins? .What is the best load order for mods involving FOOK2 with MMM, Enhanced Weather, RoboCo Certified Companions, and Wasteland whisperer. Or FWE with MMM, Movable WorkBench, RoboCo Certified Companions, and Wasteland whisperer? Why I am asking these questions, well, because I am suffering from a CTD every 15 minutes. A friend told me he had twice as many mods as I did and a few I listed on here, but never crashed once. It wasn't because he had a multicore machine, but he knew something I did not. Any help would be much appreciated. And I'd be very happy if all questions are answered well! :) (Also, I done a ton of research and read all the fine print the FAQ's pages have to offer, however, I'd rather have a second opinion about how it should be done, because sometimes those FAQs don't often clarify some things.) Fraktyl
Hi all. I'd like to ask some questions about FOMM and tweaks. .Is the "toggle archive invalidation" needed for mods such as Fook2 or FWE? Or Mart's Mutants Mod? It's for any mod that wants to overwrite a default texture/mesh/sound/menu... basically you want this on. .Do the inactive plugins still have effects on the active plugins? The only way an inactive plug gets loaded is if it's a master for another plugin. Even if it's disabled, it will still load if another addon requires it. .Is it necessary to use the ini entries suggested for multicore machines? (I have a quad core system, but I don't know if those tweaks do anything) Depends on who you listen to... some will say it helps with crashes.. others say it won't. I use the:iNumHWThreads=2This is on an i7 (quad core. 8 cores with Hyper threading) I don't seem to have as many crashes with it on. YMMV .Does FOMM ever clean up after itself when uninstalling/installing old/new plugins? If you installed using an fomod, or one you built yourself then yes. When you uninstall it will remove old entries. If all you're using FOMM for is load order then no. You'll have to clean up yourself .What is the best load order for mods involving FOOK2 with MMM, Enhanced Weather, RoboCo Certified Companions, and Wasteland whisperer. Or FWE with MMM, Movable WorkBench, RoboCo Certified Companions, and Wasteland whisperer? Download: BOSS. That will help with most of the load orders. Get a copy of FO3edit and make a Merged patch. There are directions for using it available here on the Nexus. That will eliminate a LOT of CTD's and other weirdness. You have to make one yourself though. Someone elses won't work for you. You may want to look into FOIP also. Hope this helps.
Delta_010
Thanks, I'll keep all that in mind. But, I'm sorta a bug-o-phobic toward crashes and freezes. I had some awful experiences trying to get mods to work in most areas. And I done most of what the instructions stated to do, and even the load-order has been frequently altered, I also applied the merged patch before, but kept getting crashes every so often. It's more of a chore than a game to play with mods such as Fook or FWE. I wanna know if their will be a time in the future where 98% of the bugs could be ironed out? I just can't stand it when they crash during some random time, or some time when I least expect it. Like I said once before sometime ago, I read and done all the instructions to attempt to make mods such as "Fook2 RC 1.0, and FWE 5.0.4" Crash free. But I had no success. I have met friends who never had those mods crash on them. Still... I'm sad and tired, I just want a working mod that I can settle down and enjoy. I'll give the BOSS utility a try, but I'm not sure if it will help. Although I think it might be my hardware... My OS and Hardware is...-WindowsXP Professional SP2-3.25gigabytes of DDR2 Ram (It would be 4 if I had Vista or 7) -AMD Phenom II Black Edition with a 3.4 ghz normal clock speed (not OC'ed)-BFG Nvidia 9800 GT PCI-E (Have the latest drivers so no problem there) If anyone is familiar with hardware and such, this might be a helpful reference.Although, it might be just that fact that I haven't upgraded to Service Pack 3 yet even though I don't know what SP3 has that SP2 doesn't. Thanks for the help. Further help would be even better! :)
Fraktyl
Getting FOOK and FWE installed at the same time is probably more trouble than it's worth in my opinion. I'd pick one and go with that. They both change too many of the same things. So getting them playing nice together can be very time consuming and difficult. As for the service pack. I would update to SP3. Microsoft is phasing out support for XP. I believe SP1 is no longer supported and SP2 will be unsupported soon also. That means no security patches, or any patches at all for that matter. Sad to say, but at some point you're going to want to go to Win 7 (skip Vista all together). Hardware wise, I don't see anything that's weird. You have to remember that FO:3 is notoriously buggy. I'd suggest starting with no mods, and getting a stable game. Then add in the mods you want to play and go from there. It is tedious, and can be very frustrating. In the end I think the result is usually worth it.
Delta_010
R-i-g-h-t... I was gonna type something to get me banned.. I'm sorry, but your advice doesn't seem to help. This ends this topic, and I'll just give FO3 a big rest. Thanks for trying and have a good week! :) That was lame of me, I apologize.
