radishson
I was playing as normal and exited the game to tweak a character appearance mod in the GECK. Suddenly I can no longer get the game to run. It crashes as soon as I click play, with the same error message: "Failed to initialize renderer. Unknown error creating the Gamebryo Renderer." So far I have triedbooting vanilla (disabling mods in FOMM and not using 4g or NVSE) booting with 4G but without NVSE and vice versa verifying integrity of game cache through Steam deleting all 3 .ini files; replacing the main folder's ini file with a vanilla version placing a d3d9.dll file in the main folder restarting my video cards through the device manager restarting my computerNothing about my computer has changed since it was running earlier today. And it can't be my mods, since I was only tweaking one small component of a companion's appearance and other than that they haven't changed either. Please help!! Any ideas?! ChuckNades
Yeah I'm currently having this same problem and I'm not sure how to fix it. Any chance anyone out there has a solution? I don't have any mods on, I literally downloaded this again yesterday after a few years and I don't know what the problem is? So I'm pretty open to suggestions? dubiousintent
No idea what is causing the problem, but the "active file" is the one that gets saved when you exit GECK. However, recall that GECK has to be run as "Administrator". Which means the 3 FNV INI files and the GeckCustom.ini file involved will be under that account and not your normal user account. Make sure you are clearing out the correct location. And if you just reinstalled the game, do not let it install to the default location of "C:\Program Files". See the article "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" in my signature for why and the link to the official Steam procedure on moving it. -Dubious- Edited January 8, 2017 by dubiousintent

dubiousintent
Since no one replied: "we don't know". The original poster probably broke things while trying to edit in the GECK. Please start your own thread and provide the information requested in the wiki "How to ask for help" article. Vague symptoms without supporting details get vague solutions. -Dubious-
