falloutperson416
I have built a radio station for a mod of mine... I want to know, would it be elligal to play some songs I bought on my radio? Do I need some sort of copyright material present or anything?
KDStudios
Yeah it will be illegal due to copyright restrictions.Uploading any song by any band (Unless it is distributing off the band site for free and says in the small print you can actually upload it places and use as you wish) is illegal and will automatically have you removed from the nexus. Shame really... But thats the law =/ What type of music is it anyway? (Out of curiosity)

pkleiss
The rule of thumb states that the music you put on your radio needs to be 50 years old or older to insure that it is in the "public domain".

bben46
There was once a 'fair use rule' that allowed for things like what you want to do. However, the greedy corporate lawyers have made it a policy to sue for ANY use of music, no matter how innocent. And the user has to prove 'fair use' applies. The latest example of this was a suit brought against a woman who posted a short vid of her baby playing on youtube. And the radio was playing a song that Sony has the rights to in the background - She was ordered to take it down or be sued. Yes, she could take it to court and probably win, but it would cost her tens of thousands of dollars and a lot of time. So the greedy music executives get away with this kind of intimidation because it costs too much to fight it.
falloutperson416
Thanks for that information bben46. Well, that's a dissapointment. Back to the drawing board for the radio station, I suppose.
