Hausse
Having played through the game I thought it is sad that it is over. I then got an idea to make F3 interesting again and started to play again but a little differently. I play on very hard and without re-loading after dying. That’s right. When I die I have to start all over again. It occurred to me that my strongest weapon was really the F5 key (quicksave) and that my decisions didn't really matter because I could always reload. I found that lame. My new policy changed that. Suddenly my decisions actually mattered because I had something to lose, esp. when possessing some good gear. This life is it. I have to act as if it is the only life I have. That changes the game quite a bit. Now I consider carefully whether I attack an opponent or not. Will I risk my life to get that better gun or skill book? I tell you. It becomes really suspense. When going through the wasteland one sometimes feels like some stray dog, scared of everything, safe nowhere. Raiders with automatic guns are actually very dangerous without the mighty F5 key. The hardest time I got from Talon Mercs. Sometimes I could only keep myself alive by liberal use of stimpacks and chems and running for cover. This way of playing is sobering because it does away with the illusion that I am actually good. I got killed by vicious dogs, sniped to death by Sam Warrick, died in car explosions, you name it. Each time I had to start again but one actually learns to be careful and to pay attention. I use a few mods that increase the fun a lot for me: CFWR is absolutely essential, Slower Levelling (half the speed), Essential Caravans, Darnified UI. I only save my games to protect myself from crashes and when I stop playing. I also save when forcing locks and hacking computers as a convenience. Rarely before speech checks. Mostly I really play the cards life deals me. Which is what role-playing should be all about. I have started my game different than I used to. Before I did some Megaton sub-quests, cleaned out the Springvale school and the highway with raiders. Now I went to Megaton, did some sub-quests there for levelling up and caps, if lucky I could buy a grenade pistol from Moira. I then went southward and attacked the Talon outpost which gave me their better armor and I was lucky, they had a Neostead 2000 shotgun. I then went further south to Bailys crossroads and did the Aiding the Outcasts quest because I wanted the Power Armor Perk. I went in there with level 3 and came out with level 7, I believe. I could now wear power armor and had very good guns. And the whole game was practically still ahead of me. Went into the Springvale school like the Terminator. I am now a respectable level 15 and my chances of dying are substantially lower but not zero. Have fun!
