Differences in "feel" among regions of Cyrodiil...

Hey folks... kinda weird question here. I've used the Better Music System mod for awhile now but never took advantage of most of its features. Specifically, the one that allows you to use a different playlist of background music for various regions in the game.

My trouble is that it's been awhile since I sat down and played the game all through. Visited the different cities and regions, etc. And even when I did that I apparently wasn't paying much attention to the world because when I look at the regional playlists nothing is coming to mind -- Heartlands? Nibenay Valley? I know where the areas are in a general sense but I couldn't tell you what the landscape looks like or what makes one area different from another. To make it harder, I'm using Unique Landscapes and I'm not entirely sure how much the UL mods may change the atmosphere of any given region. The presence of UL is why I posted this here and not in the general Oblivion folder.

I was wondering if anyone who's familiar with UL'ed Cyrodiil would mind giving me a basic idea of what each region is all about, so to speak. I'm trying to come up with appropriately themed music for the regional playlists. It needn't be a long description -- just a few descriptive words is fine. For instance, the Blackwood area... that's a swamp, isn't it? A dark spooky swamp or a lush jungle-y exotic swamp?

The regional playlists are for these areas:

Blackwood

Colovian Highlands

Gold Coast

Great Forest

Heartlands

Jerall Mountains

Nibenay Basin

Nibenay Valley

Valus Mountains

West Weald

Anything anybody wants to toss in regarding those areas would be great. I'm just looking for a general atmospheric description... and it would also be useful to know if any of the areas are similar enough that I could use the same playlist. I mean, is the Jerall Mountain area so much different from the Valus Mountain area that they really need two separate themes? It'd be easier to just use the same set of music for "mountains" heh.

I go with a more nordic feel in the Jerall mountains. Probably one of the rare occurences that I actually use songs with lyrics in them. Stuff like Bathory's Nordland albums and whatnot.

I do spend considerable time plotting and arranging my playlists to fit with the feel of the area, or faction, or mood. Generally lyricless, and hand plucked from various games, films, and music in general.

I'll share samples of what I have for each region.

Colovian Highlands

Gold Coast

West Weald

Heartlands

(Most colourful of the set, typically there's LotR dungeon-ish music, and ambient stuff that Icouldn't find links too.)

Castles

Caves

Homes (hehe)

Night

Night Public

Storm

(And the main array of my favourite default vanilla atmosphere songs)

Public

I guess I shared more than I intended, lol.

If you want what I have as a template to build upon, let me know and I'll upload it for you.

Wow, thanks for the links! I went and listened to every single one heh.

As much as I appreciate all your effort, what I'm really wondering is if you could maybe give me a couple of descriptive terms for the regions? It isn't that I don't like your music -- it's that we may have different ideas of what sort of music goes with "dark swamp" or "Nordic mountains".

I actually downloaded a couple of music packs from the Nexus that had tracks assigned to each regional playlist, but whoever did the assigning seems to have very different taste than I do. I played the game for a few hours with those tracks and wandered around Tamriel and I just didn't agree with most of what was playing -- it didn't match what I felt the mood of the landscape to be. That's when I dumped all the music I have into one folder and now I'm sorting through trying to decide which region to assign each track to. But as I said, I don't even know if the Blackwood swamp is spooky or lush.

If you wouldn't mind sending over some of your choices, I'd love to look through it (er, listen through it?). It's just that what I really need is a decent text description of each region. At this point it'd even help to have a big map of Cyrodiil with each of the regions shaded in a different color so I can tell at a glance which areas are encompassed.

I'll throw this in there:

The area around Bravil is kinda like an old, massive, destroyed fort that's been decaying in ruins and is overgrown with plants and such. (Assuming UL is installed). And Harcane grove is a very magical hidden place, with faeries and unicorns, a very magicky mushroomish fairy tale, but almost dark fairy tale type place, once again, with UL.

I hope that helps some, those are the only two I can think of off the top of my mind.
