Riverter Rose
nightmare here again with the only other problem ive had with the game.. but first a little story i purchased a new dell PC with Oblivion in mind.... i didnt bother to look at every video card requirement, haveing played in the 360 i figured what the heck... so i order a new PC and come to find out it has an intergrated video card on it,... so of course it wont work...fine... i went out and bought a GeForce... (eh above 7000 model) only to learn the hard way about PCI, PCI express and AGP.... (didnt know PCI expressed existed.... my last computer was from like 2000....so um yeah..) so im reduced to a nVidia GeForce 6200 oc.... here are my complete specs.. WinXP home (SP2)1 GB ramnVidia 6200oc2.40 GHz (multi-core) (simply) so u wonder *(whats the problem ur having?) eh, the problem is, while playing Oblivion.... during certain parts of the game... (seems random really) my screen will freeze and i can still hear the music playing... then after about 10 seconds the music goes into a studder... sometimes i can continue playing... but 9 out of 10 friggin times, i gets what i call (from my days on PSO for Dreamcast) the BSOD.... for those of u who played PSO you would know that is the "Blue Screen of Death" this happens mainly in combat situations.... it will freeze right before i'm hit.. and i can see the (usually human) attacker's face and sword (or whatever) comeing at me... i get a blue screen telling me that i need to update all drivers for my video card (been there, dont that) and that it was caught in an "infinite loop" so, im pissed, and im wondering.... any1 else had anything like this before? it looks to sayu something like 0cx0000005 or something, i didnt look at the tech specs long before re-starting.. ANY help is appriceated....

People who lived in South Carolina during that time will recognize this as the state of having excess heat -- IE, too high of a temperature. Try lowering your video "settings." Dilvish
That's a very low-end video card for Oblivion. Have you turned the settings down as low as you can to see how it works at minimum? If you have an AGP slot, there are better cards than the 6200 that would fit.
Riverter Rose
Ive tried to lower the settings to default... maybe your right about the over-heatin' though, and yeah i made about 3 trips to best buy before i realized that i only have 2 PCI slots.... i have a very weird spot though, it looks like PCIxpress. but its very very short,.... and its right above my PCI slots.. i looked on the tech sheet that came with that dell and all it says is PCIx1..... never heard of it... :-/ ive heard of PCIx16 though... Dilvish
The PCI-E x1 is the replacement for the old style PCI slot. It's not for video cards. It sounds like you only have a PCI slot? I believe that 6200 is the best PCI card available so you're stuck with that unless you get a new computer. I've read posts in the Official Forums from people who say they're running Oblivion on PCI video cards. I think you need to start at the Very Low settings and work from there. There are lots of tweaks to improve performance. Check out the hardware topics here and at the Official Forums. You need to back off on the settings until you find a point where the crashing stops or you feel it's manageable. Then start tweaking. Everyone has to tweak Oblivion no matter what hardware they have. :)
