I've just re-installed DAO, could someone please tell me please if it's OK to only install the new patch or do I have to do the first and second, I know I don't have to do 1.03?

If you are going to install Awakenings, do that first as that will patch you to 1.03 and then you can patch to 1.04.

If you are not going to install Awakenings simply install the 1.04 patch.

If you install Awakenings at a later time, you will need to install the 1.04 patch afterward (again.)

Brilliant thanks, off to do that right away. That is a bit of a bummer that an older patch will overwrite a newer one, a lot of things similar to that tell you that you have a newer version and ask if you want still want to install, perhaps BW should give that some thought or am I completely off the mark with that idea?

The problem lies in the fact that the Awakenings install exe can only install Awakenings and 1.03 together or abort, there is no check to see if you are even 1.03 before it installs it again. For lack of better words it is a result of incompetent programming and an inability to think forward. Of course I could add to that a lack of supervisory oversight and a general failure to require any kind of accountability from supervisors and staff for putting out a clearly defective instrument.

Yes I totally agree, BW leave a lot to be desired in a lot of departments. I've been half following all the chat about the latest patch which prompted my post, I figured this was easier than wading through all the problems trying to figure out what to do.

I have always been a bit confused about patches for games and wondered it new patches contained the fixes earlier ones and if you needed to install all of them, when installing games, but I've never been in the position I am now, it was a lot easier to only have to install the one.

I can't see me playing Awakenings again, it was a big disappointment the first time. I have fired it up a couple of times since to test a couple of things, but no way would I do another play through unless it was to see Anders and Nathaniel

That sums it up very well Rusty. Good job there.

I know i've said it before, but I gotta say it again. BW is great at designing games. As software engineers? Not so much.

i'm actually having tons of problems with my game after patching to 1.04. very few user created mods show up any longer in characters created after applying the patch. force loading doesn't work, and i'm reluctant to uninstall all the mods and reinstall on the offchance that they just won't show up at all.

This was actually a really bad issue with 1.03 as well, but with 1.04 the game changes the way that scripts are handled. Items that appear in game via scripts. There's a recommendation for how to try to help correct it, posted earlier on in this thread.

Another method that will help out is to DEACTIVATE all the mods BEFORE starting up the character. Load the new game into the game, play him/her until you get to where you can make a savegame. Exit DA, reactivate the mods, then load up your new savegame. Its a hassle, yeah. But it really beats trying to use a lot of different methods that may or may not work, trying to get those items to show up.

for the ones that arent showing up, I'd recommend hdhd's additem script. It includes most of the vanilla items, and some of the DLC items (prior to the DS Chronicals dlc). And a few of the modders items that he had permission to add. You can add mod items yourself to it, via editing in the item's filename. Now unfortunately, to do that, you will need the toolset, and open the mod files in that, to get the filenames.

And the console, in order to run the scripts. He has a link to instructions for the console in the description of the mod.

Just do a search in the mods section. where it says 'Author" type in hdhd and have it search for his name. It'll come up ;)
