DA:O Keeps crashing!

Patch 1.05

And the patch broke the game and it forced me to reinstall the game again.

The perplexing part is the game is installed on D drive and patch didn't give me option for anything.

I ran the patch and an error popped up saying something about uninstall.exe in bin folder on C drive, like it couldn't be found. Retry didn't fix it, so I had options to abort or skip. Skipping that part proceeded to install the patch. After installation was done, I tried to run the game and it said I have to reinstall it.

I tried rebooting laptop, result was the same. Game is broken.

You did a install of DAO on the D drive - which is your custom installation since the game installs on the C drive by default. And now you are having trouble installing the patch because it automatically goes to the C drive. I'd say that is your problem.

Regardless of what happens with other games on your laptop and the laptops of others, when the error messages tell you that they can't find a game on the C drive that you installed on the D, THAT is the problem that you have to resolve.

Perhaps, but I do not install games on the same drive where Windows are installed. Never.

And every game that required patching; the patch itself gave me an option where to ibstall.

This patch gives none. It's shitty programming and assumption which is a mother of all screwups. Don't assume that all people follow the default nonsense to install things on Windows drive.

It's stupid to do that.

The patch should have given an option where to install it. But people complain about patch break their game, cause even if default is followed, it still

breaks the game.

The original install location is the only time you have to specify. All the DAO patches just look for the appropriate path in the game's registry entry and use that.

I have installed DAO (both the individual game+separate DLC and the UE, using both the retail discs and a digital download) and all its patches many, many times on multiple machines. The game has bugs, but it is definitely NOT "broken". (The 1.03 patch is the only one that actually made some working installs unplayable.)

There is something different about your machine, or your copy. What version (original or UE) and mechanism (disc or download) are you using?

What game doesn't have its share of bugs? I'm re-installing the game as we speak and it installs on D drive (D:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age) <---this is the exact path where the game is installed.

The patch didn't even offer me an option to choose where to install it. All other games that required patches; gave the option where to install them. Heck even the old VTMB (Vampire TM: Bloodlines) has patches that have the option where to install them. Sure, the standard is default, but you can choose where. In this case, there was no choice, so naturally, the only error was that "uninstall.exe", all other things were listed properly. o.O

I have a digital copy of a game. I got it for free on Origins.

It says Dragon Age: Origins (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/89/Dragon_Age_Origins_cover.png) and it's a digital download.

EDIT:

Most bizarre thing had happened. I loaded another walkthrough (casteless dwarf) and the game froze only once when I spoke to Leliana and after hitting ctrl+alt+delete to bring up task manager; minimizing and maximizing the game fixed the problem and I ran into Jowan at Redcliffe castle, there was no lag, no freezing, nothing. o.O

I went back to Male mage walkthrough and the moment game initiates a conversation with Cullen at Circle tower, game froze up at least 6 times and crashed twice, with no error, only that it stopped working and windows has to turn it off. O.o

I'm confused to say the least. o.o

Is it possible that save file got buggy or is the game trolling me? I can't tell.

What I meant about the path for installing patches is that the patch will look at the registry for your current game install and use the path found there. Since you installed the game on your D: drive, that's where the patch goes. No need to ask you.

Now you said it seems to be behaving correctly (at least some of the time) so... what mods are you using?

Perhaps, but it confused me when the error popped up about that "uninstall.exe" in bin folder. (if I recall correctly) and after that the game got corrupt, saying it cannot be run and that I have to reinstall it. Like setup went bad. o.O

I expected that when I run patch, it would show me installation path and then I'd set where I wish it to install. *shrugs*

I'm not using any mods. I did download some mods, but never installed them. The mods are in "Downloads" folder.

The game has its own will. After reinstallation process, I ran the game, only to realize that I didn't restore previous save files. After restoring those files and loading male Mage and the conversation with Cullen resulted in frequent freezing as if the game is refreshing and it crashed. I turned on the overlay in Origins>Application Settings>Origin in Game and checked Enable Origin in Game.

I wanted to see if the same thing will happen in other walkthroughs. I've loaded casteless dwarf and it froze only once, which got resolved by bringing up the task manager and then Jowan part was flawless, no lags, freezing. o.O

The other thing I noticed is that..if I play game for a longer time period, it would randomly crash, so I have to save it often.

I have no idea if the game is trolling me or if it has its own will. D:

The problem of "load times slowly increase the longer you play and the game eventually crashes" has been around since the initial release. It's caused by a memory leak in the Eclipse game engine code that BioWare can't fix.

Otherwise, I got nothing except to reiterate that you're trying to play the game on a platform that doesn't meet the publisher's min. specs.

Apparently, this particular save file is a problem. I'll delete it and find another way to achieve Blood mage ability.

It keeps freezing up way too often and eventually; game crashes.

The perplexing part is that you say I'm trying to play the game on a platform that doesn't meet publisher's min. specs and yet the game runs normally on other save files. I didn't find any info that Bioware ever said anything about intel graphics being bad for this game? o.O

EDIT: I've deleted the particular save file and loaded the city elf save file. No freezing, no lagging, nothing. Not even when speaking with Niall in the Fade. o.O If I was playing the deleted save file, it would freeze at least twice by now.

I've enabled the console, just to activate blood mage part. *shrugs* It's a good game.
