Can any one advise on this please. I've just upgraded my PC and running Win7 which has DirectX 11 installed, I've noted that DAO needs DirectX 9 will DAO run with DirectX 11 or should I downgrade to 9?

Been running DA:O/A with DirectX-11 on Win7 since Day-1. Never had any problems.

not only that, but if you've got an 8+ series of nvidia chipset (i think its 8 ] the drivers have a setting named "ambient occlusion", though relatively costly for performance, dao is the only other engine besides the source engine that actually uses/takes advantage of this setting (that i have seen), which pretty much adds soft shadows to whatevr architecture meets its criteria, warning that this setting only looks good in quality mode (at least for now, and at least in dragon age) can creates the opposite effect (strange/ugly) if run in performance mode, even in max quality can sometimes look a bit odd - but most certainly compliments the overall environments that have large objects or buildings etc

just thought i'd throw that in ;]

@V-G; Hmmmmm, didn't know about this. I have an nVidia 240 GT w/1GB, so I'll have to take a look and see what impact it has! Thx. :)

I haven't got Nvidia. I've got a Radeon 5850 that came with the most abysmal instructions for setting up, let alone anything else, as soon as I can I'll have to see if I can find anything on the web or by playing around, that might help with the quality of the graphics which are way better than they were before, at the moment the difference between low and med is huge.

Low is like why did I even bother upgrading and medium is so over the top, the dog looks like it's made out of shiny plastic and most of the characters I've seen so far look really old, even Alistair has wrinkles round his eyes that someone in their early 20's just shouldn't have, but on the up side, this is the first time I've seen the colour of anyone's eyes.

What version of DirectX should not matter as long as you have one that is required or newer. I have DX 11 for use with Crysis, and DAO works just fine. I also run at the highest graphics setting that DAO has at 1440x900 resolution. The vanilla faces do look older at the higher resolution which is why I ( and many others) have modded a lot of the faces in the game. For Alistair they used a mixture of the default head texture over elf. For my version I reversed them to get a younger look to his face. Plus the have him as a mixture of Daveth and Alistair in the unique shapes sliders, 50/50, and Cailen same at 35/65. The Daveth shape added in makes him look older by default.

I've got my resolution at 1680 x 1050 and details at Medium and I've reduced texture detail to medium, which reminds me I need to up those again as it didn't make a huge difference.

There are lots of morphs for Alistair out there but I've only seen 2 that come close to how I would like him, perhaps when I've finished all this re-installing and copying files etc I'll think about looking into the toolset, assuming that is where all these mods are created. I was quite happy with his looks using my old set up, if I can get that back but leave everything else as is I'd be a happy bunny.
