Vagrant0
I'm currently in the process of making a mod with active members of fighters/mages guilds, you know, actually going around and doing stuff. But, since I havn't played very far in the game, I don't have an accurate bed count in the main cities... IE, how many are free in Inns, Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, individually, always making sure that the player has one in each location. Since this script is intended to start at the beginning of the game, and remain active well after it is done, I need to get counts from other people at whatever stage in the game they're at. It's a simple request, next time it is night (midnight to 3am is best) run into the nearest guild or inn, and count the empty beds. Then subtract 1 from that count. If it is a double bed with 1 free, count it as 1, if it is with 2 free, count it as two. If you don't feel like picking the locks at an inn, you could use a detect life spell to see if that room is occupied. All help in this matter will help prevent problems once I have enough of the work on the mod completed to release it. I would prefer not to go adding beds to cells simply to avoid major conflicts with other mods.

Vagrant0
hmmm or you can just go get ANB portable bedroll mod :D. Intresting idea though.. Except that would require anyone using my mod to have that one as well... This would also create some problems in package usage since this would be NPCs we're using, rather than players. If that mod even supports NPC use. It is however a welcome suggestion since I might be able to work it in in the case of overflow. I would still however like to get a bedcount since it seems more "right".
coolmatel
cant you just count in the editor?
Vagrant0
cant you just count in the editor? No. Atleast not for my uses. In the editor I'd only be able to see how many beds there are at a specific location. It won't however tell me if they get used. Checking in game is the only way since it lets me know how many aren't being used. So why am I not running around to every city and looking for myself? Simple answer is that several NPCs are added or removed from existance, or atleast have where they sleep changed based on what quests are running, or the actions of the player. Due to this, it would be impossible for me to know exactly how many are free in a given location without checking for every possibility on my own. By asking others to check in their games, I get a random sampling of what's free when, and can use this information to decide where to place my NPCs so that they don't interfere with normal game mechanics. It is certainly easier to not make an NPC, complete with packages, scripting, and everything, than it is to make one, then find out that due to certain conditions, that NPC screws up someone's game. While beds alone are a minor factor, it will be the main factor in how many NPCs I actually make. It is also a more important factor since I would like to add the ability for doing various cleanup functions after an NPC sleeps. I wouldn't be asking if I thought it reasonable that I could do it all myself.

Vagrant0
ive got bruma coveredinn- 2 provided you killed the vampirefighters guild-3mages guild -1 Is that both inns, or just one? Main quest lines involving Bruma done, or not started? Counting beds for player right? This helps some, but need someone else at a different stage in the game to compare their values with yours. It also looks like fighters guilds will be featured in my first release since they seem to have the most beds. Hopefully people don't mind me altering the basements to add additional training stations.

magfo
Why? The idea is great, but why make sure there's always a bed free? That destroys the greatness of the idea! In real life you can't be sure you find a bed. As easy as that! Sometimes an inn is full, nothing to do about it! Next version of this game, when NPCs are active, move around... when inns become full because there's a fair going on in Bruma... when there's harvest season in one part of the region and people move there... etc. Glorious! So, my suggestion: Allow the inns to become full. If you get to an inn late at night, you won't get a bed. Get there early and you will. TONS more realistic and fun. Yes, you will be annoyed when you won't find a bed, but really, that happens. And in the game it takes 10 secs to move to another town, not like in real life.
