Klaus83
Playing OOO and RBP I was disappointed, that I could reach immunity to magic very soon without any effort. With some Resist Magic items, but without self enchanted stuff and without the strongest Resist Magic spell I can reach about 85% resistance to magic, so all casters will do only about 15% damage to me. That completely broke my game! It`s like playing in god mode against mages. Maybe something is wrong with my mods, otherwise I can`t believe those smart guys didn`t balance this out properly. However, I can`t find anything on this issue in the documentations. I found lame too, that you can cast on yourself a Fire Shield AND a Shock Shield AND a Frost Shield AT THE SAME. Shouldn`t you have to choose? And why should I choose a specific Elemental Resist or Elemental Shield, when I can have a Resist Magic spell that covers all elemental resistances? I know, the Elemental Shield gives you normal armor too, but this again is overpowered, isn`t it? So I`m looking to fix this now and I`m hoping you could help me with some good advice, because I don`t have a lot of experience working with the CS. How would you solve the problem? The easiest but not prettiest way to go would be a mod that alters the effectivity of all Resist Magic and Elemental Shield effects to about 50% or even 30% of the normal effect, so if you get 100% a Magic Resist effect in the game, you would actually just have a 50% or 30% Magic Resist effect. A spell that gives you 30% Magic Resist would give you actually just 15% or even 10% Magic Resist. The same goes for Elemental Shield effect. Do you think, such a mod would be possible? The longer and much more complicated way would be too rework all spells and items, but that would be A LOT of work, I guess. What do you think? Also I don`t know how exactly to do it. I`m curious about what you think. Isn`t the Resist Magic and Elemental Shield system (and maybe others too) too strong and therefore unbalanced? Could a mod fix this problem? BFG99
Personally, I don't have much experience with OOO, but I do agree it's often too easy to reach 100% Resist Magic, Chameleon, etc. which makes the game far too easy.It sounds like you're casting spells, not using self-enchanted items, so this likely won't help but...I built a mod (first one linked in my signature) that inteds to make enchantments on armor more difficult to maintain. Basically, the more damage the armor takes, the weaker the enchantment. So you might consider checking it out.
Klaus83
You agree with me then? So what about developing a mod that alters the effectivity of resistance in the way I described above to 1/2 or 1/3 of the original resistance effect. Do you see any possibility for me to achieve this, for example manipulating a certain variable and make a plugin out of it?
BFG99
It's probably possible, but I'm not aware of any way to make a change like that quickly. I think that every magic effect, and possibly every enchantment, stored in Vanilla Oblivion's tables would have to be altered. And then you'd have the problem of incompatibility with mods that add magic effects, custom enchantments, etc. That said, I'm not very familiar with that part of the game. Someone else who has more proficiency with magic effects might have a better idea of how to pull this off.
FireFlickerFlak
If you are interested in a good gameplay balancing mod, I would highly recommend ROM. It is built assuming you will be using OOO but everything ROM adds is much more focused on balancing the game. It will change a lot of things so there might be some stuff you don't like that make the game harder, but I have never seen a more effective balancing mod for magicka or any other aspect of gameplay.
