Deleted1623989User
So I've recently bought The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game of the year edition deluxe off of Steam (it was on sale so I thought why not) and I'm having a bit of trouble installing the patches for it, also whenever I try to boot up Oblivion, it crashes at the Bethesda intro screen, now I'm pretty sure these issues may be related so if anyone could offer their input, that would be great. Shadowfen
Do not try to install patches for Oblivion GOTY edition - it already has them included. As for the crashing on startup, I don't know. It might be a video or sound driver problem or configuration problem. The easiest thing to try is to find the oblivion.ini file (somewhere in your user directories near saved games) and remove it. Oblivion will recreate it with "sensible" defaults the next time you run it. If that does not fix it, you might want to make sure that you have the latest video and sound drivers for your system. EDIT: Oh BTW, while you are at this stage - if you have win 7 or vista, make sure that you do not install oblivion to the default location under c:\Program Files (x86) - instead install it to c:\Games\Oblivion (or anywhere else that is not under Program Files (x86) ). This will save you later hassles with your operating system security features protecting you from running or modding your game.
bben46
The latest patch is already included in the GOTY version. However it is in the Shivering Isles part so you have to install that part to be patched. If you try to run just the Oblivion part and use the free patch from the Bethesda site, when you do install Shivering Isles it will crash. Because the Oblivion Patch is not compatible with Shivering Isles! (Way to go Bethsoft) even though they have the same version number.:wallbash: If you have Shivering isles installed and have not tried to install the Oblivion Patch, then you are patched. And do not need any more patches.
