funkswing
I played through Oblivion about a year ago with no mods. I recently re-installed the game to get my fix, but this time I wanted to use the UOP (unofficial oblivion patch) after reading about it the TES wiki. I play with only the Skill Diary mod. I can't play with the UOP turned on (either in launcher or OMM). The skill diary mod makes no difference (UOP doesn't work with or w/o it) If I start a new game with the UOP, I can follow the guards until the first Assassians appear, then CTD (crash to desktop). If I try loading a game (say after going to the Imperial city from sewers right in the start of the game) it CTD at the end of the loading bar screen (I get the music for a second, but it doesn't ever go in-game). All other post I read talk about 14 other MODs and the UOP not working together, but surely I should be able to get just the UOP mod (and the skill diary mod) to work in a new/almost new game?!? System Specs: Win 7 64-bit, ATI Raedon HD 4870 with latest drivers. I'm playing the GotY edition, but only have the original game installed (no shivering ilse or knights of the nine). I installed the UOP with the installer. I have tried using both the game's launcher and the Oblivion Mod Manager (OMM). No luck so far with all of these so-called "bug fixes".......funkswing EDIT: I was able to load a previous save (the 'ol save right before leaving the sewers) and the UOP seems to work fine. Something about loading it in a game for the first time and being in the city was screwing with it) EDIT: So, after I got the game to work, it crashed as soon as I found Viverlyn (sp?) after leaving the sewers. I'm about to install the SI and NotN to see if that works. I will uninstall the UOP first, install SI/NotN, then re-install UOP. Wish me luck and thanks! I recommend that you install Shivering Isles even if you have no intention of playing it right now because the Official Oblivion patch gets installed with it. You could got to Bethesda and download the Oblivion patch for non-Shivering Isles and install that, but if later you decide that you want to install and play SI afterall you will have to reinstall the whole shebang because SI will not install on top of a patched Oblivion. Besides, most mods these days are built on an SI install and can have unintended dependencies on SI resources/items anyway so that they won't work on a non-SI install. EDIT: UOP requires a patched Oblivion or Oblivion-SI, and yours is currently not patched.
funkswing
Thanks Shadowfen. That fixed my problems. Another question, if I may, why do the draw distances seem so low in this game? I have it all maxed out, but as I explore the open-ness the grass is always popping in about 200-300 ft in front of my character. I run at 1280x1024, 8x AA, Bloom, No HDR, texture size large, everything maxed and turned on. Is there something in the ini I can change or is this just the game? P.s - it was a long time ago, but I seem to remember Morrowind looking better (i.e. less cartoony)
