Impossible difficulty settings can change the way you act in the wasteland or how you view it. I'm scared of the wasteland, and so are the characters I make. You need a 1 or 3 death rule to acomplish this. The 1 death rule works great. Keeping with the simulation aspect. If the character dies or gets killed, they die for real, the save games get deleted, and you start over or you could keep the save games an then create new characters an be forced to not play your favorite one because they just died. I hate starting over, so much so that I try not to die just to avoid it. So that makes me very scared of the wasteland, but it also makes me look for other aspects of character playthough besides Combat Characters, Which are not afraid of anything, they charge in an kill everything standing. It's harder to have a Character Playthough with the Pure combat character.

Lola was going to be my first experiment into Character Playthough as a means to get more out of fallout 3 than just Kill an Loot. At one point though Lola got killed, out of habit I started a new character pictured above. Who started in the furthest to the south west you can get on the map an started walking toward megaton. This was a Pure Combat Character because I have not really defined it yet, besides that they need to get to megaton from the SW corner of the map. However I kept all the things I had learned from playing Lola, mostly don't fix your broken arms or legs immediatly, walk around injured for a while to get that feeling of pain an hardship. Combat Characters are very weak when they start out, so it is extremely hard not to get killed an have to start over. So somewhat you need to factor this into your rules. This character died so I went back to Lola.

Screenie Text- "So now you know why Lola became a Hooker. It's just like they say, when you fall, there is noooo bottom. First it started Mort wanted 100 Caps for some info. Then he wanted 300, and then he wanted a bit more. Lola got hot an took a swing at him. Which didn't work. So Mort beat the crap out of Lola an threw her skinny butt out the back door of the saloon. After he took all her loot. She laid there in pain for a while, yah... Licked her wounds or whatever. By the time she went back to get the tan Glock pistol she stole from the vault, Mort already owned her. She just didn't know it yet.."

I never had any interest in Animated Prostitution. When I realized that I needed more than just a combat character to level up, because they always died, from having the game too difficult. I started looking for mods that would allow me to do something to level up, make money, so that I could get food an water without having to loot an be a merchant trader in background. I'm sure there are tons of mods that could be used like this as a profession when you are a new to the wasteland. I already have struggles to overcome, don't get killed or have to start over Risks, have to make money to be able to eat/drink/sleep, have to find my dad. All that is still there in the playthrough but I needed a way to get there is all. One that would develop the character into a end result be it good or evil, because picking good or evil wasn't enough.

Basicly what happened was that I got out of Vault 101, then ventured over to Megaton. Sold all the loot I got in Vault 101 to Moria, she hooked me up on that super duper mart quest. Lola almost died and saw how dangerous the wasteland was, and that it would be best to stay hidden inside a city. Went back to Megaton an started looking for things to do. Eventually she ran into Colin Moriarty, There are things I play out in my head as far as how a thing went down, this somewhat is based off the NPC's reactions to me and the situation. When I met Colin it seemed to me that me being a sap he would take advantage. Then when he changed the cost of the information that Lola would get angry an take a swing at him, from the "tell me or I'll beat it out of you line" then based off what Colin replied to that, I figured he would have dodged her punch picked her up an thrown her into a sheif across the bar, a big fight, ending with him tossing her out the back door on her butt after he stole everything she had on her.

This was done with a few tools I use in my game. Groovatron & Umpa has many. allows the access to any NPC inventory for both troubleshooting an Character playthrough reasons. All I did was open Colin's inventory then dump all my loot there. Then went out the back door of the saloon an placed the character in the DLC pitt animation Laying in pain. Bam done, now I have a conflict I must resolve somehow even if it's pretend that I made up in my head. This ended with Lola returning to Colin an a deal being made that Lola would work for him to get the items back, which was a trick because once Lola didn't stand up to Colin, he pretty much owned her, and could do as he pleased, based off Wasteland Law...

Sceenie text- "Colin Moriarty AKA Mort for short. You could just call him swine. If only I had never met that shutta, I could have avoided around 750 sexual favors across the wasteland in 5 days time. 62,500 Caps straght to Mort less a few thousand for hooker clothing an doctor visits. You can see each city has around 30-50 people living there. There's more that never go outside. Can't say that I blame them. I can think of about 750 reasons not to leave your shack just off the top of my head"

I didn't install RR companions so that I would have followers, which would make another good character playthough, the main reason I got it was to populate the wasteland along with other mods that do so. But later on when it came time to run a animated prostitution game, it allowed way too many people you could sleep with for money. So you end up being a really nasty skank sort of because of all the dirty people your pimp makes you sleep with. This carried with it a great sadness. But Lola didn't have a choice, either do what Mort says of catch a slave beating from the DLC Pitt animations. Other mods that helped were SCC talk to anyone.

Screenie text- "We had this locker in the bathroom just full of Hooker clothing. Mort made us change clothing, or clean up Buck-ed Naked, Dance on the tables. Wake up at 6:00 clean up until 9:00, watch the bar, carry drinks to people, dance, service the customers. One time while I was cleaning a fight broke out, seariously that early in the morning. I ran faster than I ever had there were so many bullets flying. Mort, that shutta! He wouldn't even pay us enough for food, but whould charge us rent, and send me to get everyone breakfast & coffee without any money. He'd say GO GET BREAKFAST AN COFFEE! turn a trick to pay for it. Still looking back, it wasn't that bad a life. Mort would let us buy clothing, while we were out trickin. You got to drink as much as you want. The girls would all laugh an tell jokes about sleeping with Gob. As bad as things got I could always take a shower an change clothes, I would pretend it was a way to be in a differetn life, not this one, some other one wehre the person has nice clothes an is clean... I tried so hard to shut it out, that it shut me out, an I would make stukpid mistakes, making Mort angry, which he'd give me a beating."

A lot of this played out in my head randomly as situations played out, just like if a NPC acts one way or the other something might happen or not. For example at one point it was morning an we all needed food an coffee I figured Mort would send me an not even give me the money to pay for it, making me turn a trick when I wasn't even on the job, just to pay for it. The other stuff was just things I did in the game, some NPC said they just wanted to drink, so I went an got a drink for them. One time a fight did break out, so it messed up the place an I had to clean it up. There was all kinds of stuff like this, I was having fun an in the game with time passing by, but not in the normal way I had before in fallout 3 with pure combat characters which seems quite linear now looking back.

Screenie text- "Worst things can happen besides becoming a slave. It didn't feel that way to me. Worse than getting slapped around for not checking in every 2 hours with the money. I'd shut it out, so much that I'd forgeted to give the money to Mort on time. Even when he was beating me I'd still shut it out. Every so often though, there would be this overwhelming feeling of depression."

WIP

Experiment in Character Playthrough as a replacement to Role Play or Combat Characters. Mostly because Role Play is too much work thinking into it, and Combat Characters lack the overcomming of struggle (with risks) that would be required to make such a person of strong will. In a nutshell.

Personally I got into the idea from reading stuff on the official fallout 3 website in the diary entries you find when you click "vault" There were many that struck me as very interesting, however the Character Playthough opened up a new way to view how the game can be played which if you ask me is much more rewarding. While still keeping the old ways we used to play somewhat blended with the need to fill out the story as we go.
