Maskar
I'm guessing the mod is overwriting the SEFF magic effect changing the sound used back to its defaults. The sound for the SEFF magic effect is often used as a spell to scan the area for instance. The 5 second thing obviously is the default time scripts run. To solve this issue you should load the mod turning the sound off after this 1 which is turning it back on. You can check this easiest with Tes4Edit. After doing more research I came up with this solution to the problem. "it's the OBSE clock feature updating the time display, and you can turn it off by accessing the OBSE Key +[Options] in the Misc menu." Could this possibly be the cause? The person commenting seemed to know what they were talking about. Not that it will help me much since I don't know how to do this...yet. lol Thanks for all the input. documn
SirCandi, do you have COBL installed? If so, the "+[Options]" thing will be in your inventory.
Maskar
I've quickly looked into the mod and it clearly uses script effects. Although I have to look into this further to be certain it could be the Support Mode Handling quest being the cause which does indeed cast a spell called aaaSupportCast every 5 seconds, aslong as not in combat. The mod does indeed modify the SEFF magic effect, but does do that by turning all the sound off. So in theory, if this is the cause, loading the mod last will solve it. If not, it's probably something else, heh. Btw, in case you're not aware you need to change the loadorder with tools like Oblivion Mod Manager. BOSS doesn't recommend this, but BOSS isn't fullproof. I did look at the SEFF and it showed all the sounds as silent. So that way of "fixing" it did not make any sense to me. I saw that suggested on another forum. More and more research I do on this, it seems that the Noise is only caused by this mod. There were a few short mods attempting to fix it, but none that I have tried worked. Funny that the author himself (or herself) does not address the problem. "SirCandi, do you have COBL installed? If so, the "+[Options]" thing will be in your inventory. " No I am not using COBL. I saw someone suggesting it was a conflict with COBL also, but in my case that does not apply. Well I'll keep trying to come up with something. Except for the damned noise, it's an excellent companion mod. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks. documn
Did you try a script effect silencer yet? There are a few on tesnexus. But here's one: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15677
Maskar
The reason why you want to try load the mod last is to make certain no other mods turn the sound back on again. If this mod turns the sound off and you load another mod after it turning it back on, the result will be that the sound of this mod will be back on also. I suggest you use Tes4Edit and look at the SEFF magic effect of this mod to check if any other mods overwrite it. If so, you need to load it after that mod or else the sound will be turned back on again. The idea is that you first load the mod that turns the sound on and then this one turning it off, so it remains off.
chaospearl
... I could swear I just recently saw another person having the exact same problem, but I don't recall how he fixed it. I'll poke around and see what I can come up with. Edit: Bleh. The last one who posted about this is the one who had the COBL conflict. No dice there. Would you mind posting a load order? Incidentally, your handle is familiar. Probably a common name but I have to ask. You aren't by any weird coincidence, Candidus the Paladin from DragonRealms? SirCandi
... I could swear I just recently saw another person having the exact same problem, but I don't recall how he fixed it. Incidentally, your handle is familiar. Probably a common name but I have to ask. You aren't by any weird coincidence, Candidus the Paladin from DragonRealms? Guilty as charged. I was indeed Candidus in DragonRealms. Haven't played there in many years, and refued to sell the character. Been into graphic games - like Oblivion - and just can not get back into a text adventure game again. Who were you there? I could post a load order if you think it will help, however as you will see below I do now have it loaded last. I am also using BOSS to dictate my load order. "Did you try a script effect silencer yet? There are a few on tesnexus. But here's one: http://tesnexus.com/...le.php?id=15677 " I read the contents of this silencer by Duke Patrick, yet part of what he states as the purpose bothers me. "This mod eliminates the sounds and the colors lights (what I call fireworks) from the SCRIPT EFFECT class of magic." I have some magic mods and would prefer to see what the author intended. Unless I am misunderstanding what he is writing, and he is referring to just glitching and not the actual presentation of a spell. I have Talkie's newest version downloaded now, and he does recommend another silencer which I may try. And we have at least a partial answer to this problem. "The reason why you want to try load the mod last is to make certain no other mods turn the sound back on again. If this mod turns the sound off and you load another mod after it turning it back on, the result will be that the sound of this mod will be back on also." I do now have the ESP file loaded last in my order. It did stop the Noise - except - when I put the companions into support mode. When this mode is active, the Noise returns. This mod also uses an ESM file - which as I'm sure you know can not be loaded last. No idea if the Noise is caused by a conflict with the ESM, since I have yet to download Tes4Edit. Only program I have used to look at - not yet edit - mods is the TES Construction kit. Which has proved most unintuative and difficult. Well this entire adventure into using Companions has been interesting. Even with the best of Mods, the use of them in Oblivion is debateable. In fact, they can be a real hinderance if you are attempting to have "effective leveling" as it were. Having them charge into combat when you want to raise your block skill is problematic at best. Not sure if it is all worth the fuss at this point. Additionally, the CM companions are not compatable with Talkie's Companion/Share/Recruit system without extensive overhauling of the CM companions. Ive read where one fellow has to fix constant glitches, and use workarounds to get around various unresolved issues. As well as there apparently being no support from Talkie themself. At least not for quite a few months. Too bad some brave person hasn't attempted to put all of the best companion features, NPC's, commands, functions, etc., into one glitch free mod. Anyways, I think I am at a dead end for now. Unless I want to get more invovled and dig deeper into what is conflicting with this SEFF magic effect. The noise does occur when I use the menu key or the other functions. Once when a change of function is used seems fine to me. But the constant, repeating, noise when in support mode is intolerable. Anyways, thanks for all the input. I will continue to read and comment here in case something occurs that will resolve this. Sir Candi
yeahchris
There are a number of mods that require a script silencer mod. One that I have, and always use, is a mod which makes it so that my magical weapons slowly recharge themselves. It comes packaged with a script silencer so that you don't get that 'boom' noise every five seconds. Unfortunately, I don't know much about CM, as I've heard that it has issues with Deadly Reflex, which I can't live without now that I've edited out NPC dodging behavior. It would probably be a good idea to reread the documentation of the mods that you are running to see if any of them list a script silencer as a requirement. You could also try disabling CM to see if the issue goes away. You could try running CM alongside a script silencer and testing out some of that magic to make sure it looks ok. Posting your load order would also be extremely helpful.
