Issues: Cutscene Lag, Patch 1.04 says game isn't installed

First of all, I love Dragon age, so please do not post here if all you're going to do is bash the game. I would love constructive posts that will help me fix this problem.

 

Secondly, here is the system I have it set up with, which may be unique:

OS: Windows 7 home premium

Grahpics: Asus 1GB ENGT220 GeForce GT220

Processor: Athlon 64x2

40 GB HD

3GB RAM

 

This is where it gets confusing:

I don't have the game installed on the Hard drive itself. The fact is that there wasn't enough room on it for Dragon age. The game is installed on a 1000GB external Hard drive. I've been playing it for months like this with no problems whatsoever, the game works like a dream and beside the occasional bug that a restart could fix there was nothing going wrong.

 

Cutscene issues

Now some cutscenes (First experienced it on my fourth playthrough with the Lady of the Forest scene) are stopping altogether and lagging so badly that I cannot play them through. Regular gameplay seems unaffected. I can't imagine what is causing it. I play a retail version of the game and I believe I have the 1.03 patch.

 

Patch issues

When I try to install the 1.04 patch it says I do not have dragon age installed. I can assume that this is because it scans only my computer rather than the external harddrive which is where I have the game installed.

 

I currently have all of the DLC installed except for Leliana's Song and the new Golem one. However I have played through all of these on all of my prior playthroughs with no issues.

 

Recently however I've gotten into Mods for the game. Here is a list of the mods I have installed, please tell me if any of them could be causing the issues listed:

Dialogue Tweaks

Armor of the Devout

Armor of the Sten

Shadow Warden Armor

Sloth mage robe

Grey warden garments

Winter forge

Camp Storage Chest

Whiter teeth

Zevran dialogue fixes

More Hairstyles

Extra dog slot

Leliana Sings

Armor of the black fox

Dragon Age Modmanager

 

Most of these are just armor mods I know. The only ones that I could see causing the issue are Dialogue Tweaks or the Zevran Dialogue fix since those are the newest I've installed.

 

However, DAO Modmanager has also stopped working completely until I uninstall and re-download it.

Has anyone else had similar problems with any of these mods? Which ones should I uninstall to make the game stop messing up?

 

I can also link to all of these mods if anyone would like me to. I highly recommend all of them.

well i had similar issues with 2 HD"S and steam

I have win 7 64 bit as well, and for whatever reason It would not recognize the game on the old HD I ended up having to reinstall it on the new HD [ one harddrive burned out the other did not hence old vs new] Now I also had cut scene lag issues., which Darkewolfe and DanScott87 helped me resolve. It was related to steam on one account and also that i had believe it or not ablock on firewall which prevented my acknowledged " account" confirmation.

I am totally a pc noob but i think those fellas could help u. they were awesome and entirely patient with a whining [ in tears at that point!] noob gamer. Gl and i hope it is soon resolved for u.

I have installed so many cool mods i now once again have cut scene lag. I used nvidia gt250 1g ram video card with 8 gigs on mobo, I have to assume it is most likely related to all my mods? i dont know why it w ould bog that down but im just guessing, usually reinstaling the game works for me. anyways gl mate!

Thanks! I'll definitely try reinstalling the game and getting ahold of those guys you mentioned. My graphics card isn't the issue I think, since it was able to handle the game perfectly on the highest settings before. I uninstalled all of my mods but it doesn't seem like that worked very well.

 

I also installed a program called Gamebooster which did improve performance, but did not solve the problem either...

 

At this point I'm glad I finished that particular game last night, and I hope the issues were related to that playthrough alone, and they don't crop up on the other characters I'm working with.
