No discussion on Extra Terrestrials and UFOs is complete without a mention of the Fermi Paradox

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermi_paradox

Enrico Fermi was a highly respected physicist and one of the scientists who invented the atomic bomb.

There are many different theories similar to Fermi, I can't think of the other ones off the top of my head.

Other arguments have been made, for example if a person was to walk by an anthill, they probably wouldn't even notice it and may even trample on it without realizing it is there. Another species millions or billions of years more advanced than us, to them, we are ants, and likely uninteresting, or do anything to catch their attention. Radio waves? What makes you think ET might communicate in a primitive form like radio waves, if they are advanced enough to travel though space and time? Seems to me like they are looking for other ETs that are similarly advanced as us deep out there in space, they could be looking for a very long time.

Out there somewhere has to be a species way more advanced than we are, just because we haven't made contact in our small number of years, roughly 40 years or so of searching, doesn't mean something else isn't out there, the number of stars they have searched is only a drop in the barrel to what is in the milky way, let alone the Universe, they could be looking for another 200 years and not find anything. And what if the Milky Way is basically in a no mans land area of the Universe? And anything intelligent enough to make contact with us, our first radio signals might reach them in 500 million more years, long after the human race is extinct.

I don't believe ET has been to Earth and made any kind of contact in any way in the past or present, with Humans, or there would certainly be very hard evidence of that. And if they do make contact, we will all know it, and the government wont be able to blow off the big mothership flying over California as another weather balloon. Its possible they could have flown by Earth a few times, took a quick glance, then left without anyone ever knowing, which goes back to the anthill theory, and with the Universe in their reach, its unlikely Earth has any resources they would need.

Stephen Hawking also proposed a theory very similar to the anthill theory, and suggested that we should keep our heads low, and shouldn't try to contact other species, because if they get to Earth, they are automatically superior to us, and could essentially do whatever they please. And if we happened to have resources they need, guess what, they are gonna take them and we wont be able to do a whole lot about it. It could be like playing a game of Russian Roulette, and we are broadcasting our location to everyone, what if the universal serial killer decides to stop by and visit us?

Too late - It's already done by the Golden Record on Voyager 1 (1977)
