No Console

I've googled the entire world for an answer to this, but all i find are similar woes:

What if you can't get the console to come up by using the ~ key?

I've found reference to adding the -dev or -devuser switch to the shortcut which loads oblivion, tried it with one of two results: 1) if added to the oblivionlauncher.exe you get a lovely splash that will not let you play, simply points you to techsupport, and 2) if added to the oblivion.exe you get, well, nothing new.

I've gone through the usual stuff of ensuring that bAllowConsole=1 is there in my .ini file, in fact, i've tinkered with the location of the setting - again to no avail.

I've thought that perhaps this anomoly is due to my overt laziness, purchasing the game from direct2drive instead of hoisting my lazy behind outta this chair and driving down to the local vendor... I found some issues relating to the digital edition already, as in the patch, which can not be used if gained from bethesda, then found a digital edition version right there at direct to drive.

has anyone else had the console issue in the digital edition, with any sort of success in fixing it? I've done everything imaginable to get the darned thing to work - just won't happen. also got a thank you from bethesda for the question, but they failed to give me any sort of answer.

Any help out there?

Did you see this in the Official Forums? It's pinned in the FAQ section in software issues.

I can't open the console!

The console key is ~

Its the upper left key. Note that the console in oblivion is not a big box, its just a single line where you can type near bottom of your screen. Its easy to miss.

However, there ARE some things that can prevent you from opening the console. One is the USB-based Microsoft infrared remote control with windows media center edition.

There are a couple posts with detail here:
