Stampede
Seeing as companions are not part of the official game, there are no rules as such. It's your choice. However, in my experiences I prefer solo questing. Your biggest concern will be checking for plugin conflicts.
nameless13
well i narrowed down the companions that i really want. so it goes down to three. vincent, valeria, and ariana i just need to download the final patch for oblivion for vincent. ariana, it just says that i shouldnt have more than 3 companions. and for valeria, it says that i shouldnt download mods that that modifies player attributes/stats. i just got a quetions about that, i was going to download the Ring Of Regeneration and the Ring of Chameleon in Chorrol. these two mods dont really "modify" my attributes/stats. it just recharges my stats and gives my invisiblity. my question is do these two mods fall under the catagory of modifying my attributes/stats? lyth
I'd recommend downloading the Oblivion Mod Manager and using that to check for conflicts. Then you'll be able to find out if any mods you want to use are likely to conflict. It's much more certain than asking someone unless they're running the exact same mods. I have a large number of mods running together and that made clearing up issues much quicker. As a complete guess, I'd suppose that those items use magical abilities to change your stats much like items in game and that you should avoid mods that utilize direct scripting of stat/attrib changes. nameless13
i honestly wouldnt think that two rings that only restore your stats when depleted and makes you invisible "modify" your attirbutes/stats..... can you give me a link to the Oblivion Mod Manager please? Oops. Let me rephrase that. I don't think it'll be an issue, because I think you need to 'avoid mods that utilize direct scripting of stat/attrib changes', while I think that those items 'use magical abilities to change your stats much like items in game'. As far as obmm, many search engines would have given this near the top of the results list http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index...ion_Mod_Manager
Vagrant0
Back on topic. I use the companion share and recruit mod, so don't know if those three would conflict with eachother. But what I do know is how much a pain in the ass looking after 3 other characters can be. First, load doors. Any time you change areas, either 1,2, or all 3 won't follow you. When they do follow you, they end up getting stuck either behind the door, or they are all in front of you, making it harder to move forward if it is a narrow space (IE, most caves/dungeons). Second, they all move at different speeds, this means that you're bound to end up waiting for the slowest one. Meanwhile, if the faster one is faster than you, in battle they tend to run too far ahead and get killed. Then there is the terrain pathing which can be a real problem. NPCs always getting stuck between stone blocks in Oblivion, having to run all the way around rocks in the wilderness, or getting stuck in a small sloped area where they just continually run into the wall like an idiot. Third is in battle situations. In the thick of things, it is hard not hitting your companions instead of whatever you're fighting, especially when you try upping their speed so you don't have to wait for them so much. With 3 capable companions I usually only get a chance to land a decent hit if I go running ahead and manage to smack one as they run toward my companions. In areas where battles are more frequent, my companions usually end up running off to fight someone else the moment one enemy dies. This makes it harder trying to make sure that they have enough life to survive, and trying to keep them from blindly running into traps that kill them. Think back to some of the story line parts where you had companions, how hard was it to keep everyone alive? The only way this becomes less of a problem is by sticking some constant effect of restore health on them, and at that, why bother even playing. I have tried it with more than 3 companions, but after I found most areas to be litterally impossible to enter beyond the front door, and that I didn't have to do a damn thing when it came to combat, I decided that it wasn't such a good idea. The framerate at times was also slowing down noticably, which only further adds to the problem.

CJD
when i had companions my frame rate got really choppy after the 7th companion. so my advice get 6 and u wont hav a problem. unless ur computer is slower than mine. :D
Vagrant0
It isn't so much loss of frame rate as it is just trying to keep track of all of them. This becomes even more of an issue when you have to hurry through some areas. Then there's the decrease of difficulty due to 5+ NPCs beating on a supposedly hard Creature. Dunno how many times some creature has jumped out of nowhere, and was dead before I even had a chance to get my weapon out. Or coming to one of the "boss" type mobs, getting maybe 1-3 hits in before it's dead. The game was made for solo adventurers, not an adventurer and a group of 5 others. The framerate only becomes a real problem in certain quests where you have 8+ standard NPCs running around fighting. Then anything extra only adds to the problem. But mostly, it's just keeping track of everyone, making sure they have decent equipment, and aren't getting killed or getting left behind. Even essential companions occasionally fall off into the lava.
