OBSE

This is a really unique issue it seems as I've had some trouble finding others with the same problem. I have the steam version of Oblivion, and yes I've been switching between the official steam-compatible release with v19 and Valve's kindly offered release found here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=10397984&postcount=42

My issue isn't so simple, though I've a feeling it has something to do with Steam. I've been tinkering with mods and such for a good 3 weeks now ever since I got bored of Fallout 3 and had installed all the mods I could find for it and got them working. What's happening is when I start OBMM, no issues, all my mods are in good order, some modified to my tastes, in line with the help of BOSS and my own needs. But when I click Launch Oblivion... again no problems at all. If I use Valve's version of OBSE's launcher, I can see the window for it popping up happily as it whips up my cpu on the monitors on my background, and then it kindly launches Oblivion directly with no passing go or collecting 200 dollars. If I have Silverlock's version of the Steam launcher in the form of a DLL, it quietly launches the Oblivion loader without a peep as I expect and I click Play, awaiting Steam's cooperation with picking up the DLL and initializing OBSE. In either case, the game starts perfectly and smoothly.

The issue comes when I get in-game, where it believes OBSE be inactive no matter what I try. All my mods that have previously been buzzing along with OBSE in the lead suddenly yell at me for not having it installed and tell me to go get it. This was very confusing the first time since I hadn't changed anything physical in respect to the files to get this response. All I had been fiddling with was compatibility modes. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate if anyone needs to know. I have steam, and thusly all my steam games, installed under C:\Users\Public and so didn't have any reason to give anything administrator rights until this point. I had been fiddling with giving differeing parts along the process admin rights in different combinations, including giving to and taking from all options, and this just seemed to jump out of the woodworks to pester me. I was hoping to lower the amount of crashed I was having in game, and someone suggested that might help... I'm all for suggestions to my own apparent detriment...

My question is if my alterations to compatibility modes, even though I had tried returning them to their previously functional states multiple times, has a hand in turning my setup upside-down...

Another possible hint to the issue is my steam in-game community refuses to show itself no matter what I set the hot key or keys to... but then it's never worked even when OBSE was working...

Sincerely,

Kyro Viusing

For the question-inclined supporters.

Here's some proof to the fact OBSE is indeed loading and working, just somehow not making a connection in-game for some reason. ChangeConsoleKey.dll is one of the plugins for OBSE that can only be activated by it alone, and thus it has to be running in a sense... just not entirely successfully.

Yes these logs are recent, and follow after the issue began, as I cleaned out all my old logs and put them in a seperate folder.

Little update.

I double checked all compatibility settings, and everything is unblocked, given full access to everybody, and provided all the steak they can eat... There's absolutely nothing to keep OBSE from working, and its logs continue to say it is working... But it simply isn't. And I have double checked that it is indeed dysfunctional by testing each of my mods that require OBSE to work... Rather annoying, really.

In the end I resigned myself to reinstalling Oblivion and picking a more select list of mods and using Wrye Bash more than I enjoyed... However successful a solution this might have been, I feel it was a failure nonetheless.

A few ending statements if anyone passes through having an OBSE issue of their own. Oblivion on its own is a rather stable game, but if you plan to mod then try to keep your installation of the game as clean and /light/ as possible. If you're using Steam's release and having trouble with OBSE, then perhaps Valve's release of their launcher will help you. It proffered the most promise for myself at the very least. The link for said launcher is, again, as follows: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=10397984&postcount=42
