stebbinsd
Here's an interesting suggestion that would allow modders to get really, super creative! Really, really let your creative juices flow! Starting at Section III of this suggestion (we'll divide this into sections, since it's such a massive request, but it would be soooooo worth it!), you'll see what I mean! SECTION I: THE PROBLEM TO BE FIXEDEveryone was disappointed that Skyrim didn't have an Arena in it. I, myself, find it weird that the people of Tamriel have no sports aside from combat! It's not "disappointing," per se; it's just weird, is all. There are plenty of "pacifist" NPCs who detest violence, but the game forces you into the wilderness, due to the simple fact that there's nothing fun for you to do in the cities! This begs the question: Just what do the NPCs do to maintain their sanity?!!! No wonder vanilla TES games have no sober beverages; being drunk off their asses is the only way to take their minds of the sheer boredom of city life! SECTION II: WHAT TO CREATEI'd like to see a mod where all five walled cities in the game have sporting arenas. Five septims for a ticket, whenever a game was being played, and you could drop extra coin to bet on the teams if you so chose. These arenas would be jack-of-all-trades for sporting contests. That is 100% doable. Just place all the amenities needed for about five or six sports, and script each sport to only utilize certain features. For example, when I was a kid in PE Class, our gym had lines painted on the ground that could used for kickball, dodgeball, etcetera. When we played any of those games, we simply ignored the giant, ominous basketball hoops hovering ten feet over our heads. SECTION III: CREATE YOUR OWN SPORTSHere's the part that's sure to excite some modders into taking up this project! There's no reason why you have to restrict yourself to ancient sports, such as Roman gladitorial arenas or horse racing. This is a fictional universe, with an entirely separate world history from our own! So, get creative, and make up about three to five sports of your own! With your own rules! Go JK Rowling on us, and make up sports that require the use of magic! These sports would probably only be popular in Soltheim (or Markarth, which has the highest Breton population), but it would certainly be just as much fun to create this mod, as it would be to play it! Create teams for each major city of each hold that's still on good terms with the Empire. Imagine, going to Markarth and witnessing a sport against the Markarth Markers vs the Dragonstar Dragons! An element of randomness would be added to each game, to add an element of uncertainty to the games. Will the player successfully catch the ball being thrown to them? When cornered, will the player try to escape, or pass the ball to a teammate? Would one player, when trying to obstruct an opposing player, accidentally commit a foul? If so, which foul? Players would have varying degrees of skill which would enhance their random chances in their favor, but then again, so would their opponents. EDIT: Here are some examples of how skills can affect sports performance: Archery skill (along with arm strength; see below) improves your ability to throw the ball farther, and more accurately. Armor skills improve the speed at which you can run and dodge (think of it as the TES version of wearing heavy training weights). The amount of skill you get depends on how heavy the armor is, so for once, you'll actually have a reason to go daedric, even though dragonplate can easily max out your protection! Skills in melee weapons and shield usage can improve arm strength, which also adds to your ball-handling ability. SECTION IV: FUTURE INCARNATIONS!!!Future editions of this mod could include such features as these: Take your spouse and/or kids to the sporting events with you, as a date or family treat. Enroll yourself as an athlete (this would require mods that allow you to travel other provinces, but those mods are already being made). Add more types of games! Next to the sports arenas, add Ancient Greek-style Ampitheaters to hold various plays. Imagine historical battles (such as the Battle for the Imperial City during the Oblivion Crisis) being retold in front of you by actors! Of course, since you (as opposed to your character) was at the Battle for the Imperial City, you'll notice a lot of … umm … creative liberties, yeah! That's it! … taken with the source material. It has, after all, been 200 years since that battle happened! You can't deny that this would be an awesome mod to have! And modders would have just as much fun coming up with rules for the games as anyone else would have playing the mod! Any takers?
