World Lighting In The Construction Set

Hi Guys,

I've done next to no modding of this game, so apologies if this is a bit n00bish.

I'd like to be able to modify the ambient colour of the world, particularly during sunrise and sunset cycles - the colour I mean is the (usually orange/pink) colour that shines on buildings/objects at the beginning and end of the day.

I know you can adjust the 'ambient color' for a particular climate/weather pattern, but I don't think this is what I want.

Ideally, can someone tell me where to adjust what happens to the light at sunrise/sunset?

Thanks in advance!

OK - a bit more detail. I've found, in the cell editor, a setting for directional lighting. It doesn't look like this applies to exterior spaces though. When you enable 'behave as exterior' for a cell, the lighting settings are deactivated - as if they're being set by the climate pattern.

So - I think what I need is related to climate - but I want to make an overall change, regardless of climate.

Any ideas?

I don't think you can change exterior lighting outside of using weather, and even that looks limited. The main reason for this is because there isn't anywhere to change the color of the sun. It isn't a standard light. Since lights would only be loaded unless you're near that cell, you can't even mimic the sun by using a sequence of lights with 80,000+ radius being enabled/disabled by a script. Even then, it is unlikely that this would produce anything similar to what you want.

On a different note, the dusk/dawn lighting looks about right to me. If everything suddenly had a redish/yellowish hue it would make alot of other stuff in the world look worse. Adjust your monitor color settings to be a little more orange/yellow, you'll see what I mean.

OK - I think you're right - the effect would have to be a modification of weather effects.

Basically, each weather effect has a colour set for 'sunlight' for each time of day. So, for sunrise and sunset, the sunlight colour is set to a warm orangey pink colour.

I don't mean I want objects to look more 'orange' overall at these times, I'd like the sunlight colour to fade from a grey-ish unsaturated colour at ground level, to the existing orange colour at the level of treetops.

Ideally, I'd like the fade to change over the duration of sunset, so that the orange tint moves higher, closer to night time.

I've photoshopped a screen shot which gives an impression of how this effect could look. The idea is that the glow cast by the setting sun is visible only on the tips of buildings, etc. while objects close to the ground lose their glow, simulating soft shadows falling at sunset.

So, my detailed question is - can we add a second 'sunlight' colour to the weather set? SunlightHigh and SunglightLow for example. Any ideas on how this would be done? There are two sky colours, which the engine blends together, so I believe this is possible, though maybe not through the CS.

On a more general note, is there a souce for the options that appear in drop downs throughout the CS? If there is, can we edit them?

Obviously, some of them will be drawing directly from the object definitions for the game - so in that case, how do we edit them?

I believe all that is hard coded, like skills, spell effects, and a few other things. Which means that you can't change anything other than basic settings or add anything new.
