blender fails for Oblivion?

im a newbie to blender but i have made some decent meshes before

 

but today i was makeing a mesh for a claymore sword for the operation pandora and blender decided to prevent me from exporting a .nif by giving me a load of garbage warnings like "UV map not found" and "UV mp required for selected meshes"

 

now ive tried to give it a UV map but every time i try to create a seam it doesnt

 

so i cant export it so i can work on it in nif skope -.-

 

anyone know any way to bypass these warnings? or any idea how to do the UV

Seams tell Blender where to break the mesh down when you unwrap it. After your seams are set up, hit U. Then once you've selected an unwrap method, switch to the UV/Image edit window by clicking the little grid button on the left of your 3d view.
