Errors loading DAO-Modmanager and DAModder

Recommended Posts

This is really frustrating as i just now want to try some mods. I cant get DAModder to load at all. I get the following problem when i try to load DAO-Modmanager:

The Path is not a legal form.

The Path is not a legal form. (yes it said this 2 times in a row)

An error occured while reading the addins.xml

Could not find file c:\addins.xml

Then i can choose to ignore some of these error messages and eventually get it to load.

Any ideas on any of these. I have win7 64 bit.

Also, what does DAO-servicecontrol.exe do?

The path is not a legal form is an error code for code work. Meaning the program cant find some of it's elements where it's been told that they are supposed to be.

Second, it should NOT be looking for the addins.xml file directly on C:\

Try reinstall. If you get a configuration option, point it to where the folders are. If same issue, use da ModManager, which is configurable. just use manager as your search parameter in the downloads section.

The servicecontrol.exe... I have absolutely NO idea. Windoze xp+ makes so much freakin use of services that it could be anything!

ah man, i miss dragon age so much, i cant wait to finish my obligation to the s(atan)ource engine so i can get back :[

bah :[

anyway - i'm also using winvsta7 64, friend

if you can please provide following info we can get you back on your feet

a.) installation path used? (default is x:\program files (x86)\dragon rage, if so, please make backups and reinstall to x:\program files\dragon age - not essential for "guaranteed functionality, but a great start to ensure dragon nades/toolset/configs assume they are in their "natural environment")

b.) are you on a standard user account or using enabled administrator account

c.) have you tweaked group policy settings lately

d.) have you used any sort of "registry cleaner" application since you installed wivsta7

e.) if using admin account have you taken ownership of any directories other than the ones you've created (includes program files, system/32/users/etc)

f.) dont worry buddy, whatever it is we'll getcha back in the game

almost seems like i'm interrogating you...but i assure you it's with same intention as a dr. would ask diabetes patient regarding recent bacon consumption... HAHAH - just trying to help ;]

will subscribe to thread...

stop eating bacon!!!!!!

jk

i really miss dragon age, i shall return to you soon my love

First of all u must install it in the dragon age folder down in the my documents folder.

When it opens then you have to go in and edit all the folder locations so that it the go to My Documents, not Documents.

This must have been written for XP only?

I think thats what i did to sort of get it working i guess. Seems to be working.

No.

It can be installed anywhere you wish to install it, and detects the game installation perfectly fine so long as the game has been installed properly & meets the required registry entries created upon dragon age's installation.

the only time this kind of error comes up is when someone cuts and pastes the entire dragon age game from one hard drive/partition to the other to avoid the "inconvenience" of an entire re-installation from the disc itself, other than that everything works flawlessly from the game itself, mod managers & everything else pertinent to full functionality

at least you got it working though.

Have fun.

Tagging onto V-G's above, the only other mod handling tool that I use besides DAO-Mod Manager (DAMM) is TerraEx's "Chargen Morph Compliier". That DOES need help to find the correct program install path on a 64-bit Windows system. (It expects to find "...\Bioware\... in the pathname, but the default install is just: "\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age\..." Go figure!)
