Bazerk83
So I'm sure you get the gist of the topic from the title. I'm wondering if anyone has ran both FOOK 2 1.1 plus MMM (with or without) the FOIP files that apparently are made for FOOK2 1.1 What results did you have? Did it cause crashes or glitches? I'd really like to use the latest FOOK 2 with MMM so would I be better off trying to run both without the old FOIP files? or with? Or is it futile? Does anyone think it is guaranteed to keep crashing my game? Any info or advice is appreciated.
anokii
Bazerk83, I've run FOOK2 (latest) and MMM with the FOIP patch and all seemed fine.I did eventually drop MMM only because I didn't like some of it's features (personal taste). But they did work together - as for increased CTD rate or other problems - hard to tell since I ran a fair few other mods as well.I think the key is; - don't use a bunch of other mods- use a merge patch - play close attention to your load order Last but not least if you run a weather mod and you start experiencing problems - try disabling that one first and see what happens. Bazerk83
Well this is what I'm running now and I'm still getting random CTDs every half hour or so, which is almost soul destroying after trying EVERYTHING i can think of or have found as 'fixes' via the net. Performance and graphics wise it is PERFECT. I know I've installed every mod correctly and follwed the instructions to the letter. Everything OTHER than Owned! runs fine. NONE of the Owned mods seem to work with the new version of FOOK2, so I may as well get rid of it. Other than that, everything else works perfectly. So I am completely at a loss as what to do now to try and reduce the CTDs. I'd be happy if I could get it running for 2 hours+. The only thing I can think of left to do is an extensive analysis of the load order and conflicts using the advanced settings of FO3edit, but I've been hoping to avoid that because really... that'll take days to sift through and do everything right. The most frustrating thing about it all is that, as you can see... I have far less mods installed than most. I've brought it down to the bare minimum of what I want, and still no reward for the sacrifices. :(
anokii
Hmm, My load order is very close to yours except for MMM, and I can go several hours without a crash, in fact the game can last longer than I can.Suggestions: - Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch.esm - drop this - known to cause heaps of problems and especially CTD's.- I think FOOK2 esp's should be last in your load order (e.g. put it after your MMM esp's)- I don't see a merge patch - if you use something like FWE, FOOK2, etc you really should use a merge patch. Bazerk83
Ah ok I'll try all this. Thanks once again anokii. :) A couple of things, I do HAVE a merged patch, i just copy/pasted this list from BOSS and didn't highlight down far enough to "unknown files", which the merged patch is obviously placed in. I always do a merged patch though. I put MMM last because both the readme and BOSS said to. I'll try it your way seeing as it seems to work for you :) As for the UF3P, I'd heard this causes more CTD than is worth it for the changes so yeah I'll drop this too. I'm thinking that simply removing the esm and related esp either manually or via FOMM won't help me none though.... and using it's built in uninstall is probably unreliable so it's best to....sigh.... completely wipe my installation and start agin. Lastly, on that note, would installing in safe mode as admin and in compatability mode for Vista SP2 help at all? I can't really see why it would but I'm curious. Thanks for being so helpful and patient with my ever growing list of thread problems mate. It IS appreciated :)
anokii
No worries mate, Merge patch: Cool, wasn't sure of course. I've found FOOK2 to be more stable with one that's for sure. MMM: I think I mentioned I eventually dropped it but I did keep FOOK2 last. Weird how everyone wants their esp last in the order (we know why but you would think it could all be sorted out). You may want to have a play with this - seems to do a pretty decent job on sorting the load order out. Installs a bit cludgy but the readme explains it all. http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10193 UF3P: Yeah same here although I still use it - just not the BS one I've heard that's the most problematic one. Once I got rid of that one things stablised that's for sure. I actually just disabled the esp and it seems fine so I don't think you need to do a full reinstall and I know the pain, I've uninstalled and reinstalled so many times I've memorised the screens and dialogues. It took me two months to get a stable build but what I do now is backup the directories on a routine basis so I can install a mod play around and then if I don't like it restore the backup and I'm back to a known good configuration. Works good for the big mods like FWE and the like. Safe Mode: Don't believe so (and I've done it) although I noticed the install seemed to go faster. I do know there is an issue with the GOTY version and the workaround is to install the DLC's (on disk 2) in safe mode, otherwise it can take literally hours for disk 2 to be 'recognised'. Helpful: Well I hope I am - I went through so much pain when I first started to play with mods it was well lets just say it was interesting (anger managment classes have really paid off.... ;-). I just hope I can help someone find that sweet spot where everything works. You can PM me if you want more info any time - I can be off-line for extended periods though. Bazerk83
Thanls mate I really appreciate that. I'll let you know how I get on and if I have any more problems :) - btw. I've got Owned! working now :)
Bazerk83
Hmmmm, Well.... mixed results really. With the load order I had above but removing the UF3P and related BS esp, I played for an hour and a half before it crashed. I must say, it was a very quick hour and a half in that I skipped through virtually all the dialogue I encountered and was very direct in where and what I did. I whizzed through the Vault section, headed straight through Springvale looting, then straight onto Megaton, opened up all possible quests, completed a few quick ones (Pipe fixes, The Drugs secret stash, The bomb etc) After selling and repairing a ton of stuff I headed back to Springvale, took out "this junkie b***h* for Moriarty and then started to head over to the Super Duper Mart for Moira. As I got close to the Mart, the game CTD'd. At which point I went to bed. Today, I changed nothing from yesterday, feeling that 1 1/2 hours was better than usual. So I headed back from the Springvale house to the Super Duper Mart again, at which point it froze near the Super Duper Mart. I tried again, it happened again. I then altered the load order to move the FOOK 2 esps infront of MMM. and still it either CTD'd or Froze near the Super Duper Mart. So I reinstalled UF3P WITHOUT the BS fix. With all changes, I deleted and re-made a merged patch. Checking that A.I.I. was still activated. and yup, you guessed it.....same results. I know it's nothing to do with the NMC texture pack or the BUMPMAPS because my system can more than handle it and I was zipping around the Wastelands and Megaton looking all around at times and the performance and graphics were fantastic.....and trust me, I'm fussy about even the slightest of stuttering or screen tearing. So....argggggh!!! Suggestions? lol. I know I could always go back to my Vanilla backup and start again. Or start from scratch with a new game (that maybe the save is corrupted) and from a new save, head straight out of the vault to Moira and then the SDM. I just have that gut feeling it won't change anything. My options are really starting to thin out now. :(
anokii
Okay so there is a 'trigger' at the SD Mart causing the CTD. I noticed this a lot in early plays but once I got my load order (and more importantly FOOK2) sorted it doesn't happen as often. I did heaps of experiments at the time and you may want to try this as well (or ignore it totally); - you do have all auto-save functions turned off right? - try getting to the SD Mart via different path, perhaps cross the river further west and then get to the SD Mart from the bridge north, or travel east from Megaton and then north and double back to SD Mart.- skip the SD Mart and move on to something else for awhile (a few hours of game time) and then come back. - put this last suggestion in the "Twlight Zone" category but it does work: get close to where it CTD's - save your game (manually) - kill your character - yes you lose immersion - momentarily. Best way is to throw some frags at your feet. You'll die and then come back at your latest save. Try to move on to the SD Mart. (I know that all sounds incredibly impossible but it does work - I've had to use it before) Last but not least: Have you tried disabling MMM - Zone Respawns ? As much as MMM is cool some of it I didn't like and I thought it added to my CTD rate but no proof. You could always disable it and play on and see what happens. Cheers,
Bazerk83
Ah, well..... Before my long stint away from FO3 I DID used to turn off all auto save functions. However I haven't done so this time because i thought that wasn't the cure, it can't hue to try it again with all the new things I'm learning about the bug issues. So thanks for that reminder mate. I'll also try the 'twilight zone' suicide trick if the auto save trick doesn't work. Failing that I'll try the other tips you've recommended. Your advice is always sound so it's enouraging. Thanks once again mate. Will keep you posted :)
