Problems With Conversations / Dialogue

I am hoping someone will simply tell me this is how the game is played. I've noticed when I play that conversations will repeat. Is this what I've seen referenced as looping?

What's happening is I choose one option in the conversation, but I notice there are others, so I click the NPC again only to have the same conversation (on their side) show up again. Sometimes I choose difference options for my PC, sometimes I don't. But am I supposed to go through the entire conversation again in order to get access to those branches of the dialogue tree?

I've just started my second play-through (having grown frustrated with my first, I'll get back to it eventually) but I noticed there that I kept running into conversations with no resolution - I can't ask Alistair anything further about the Grey Wardens it seems (I can't go back and ask him about women in the Wardens for example) but the option to ask more about the Grey Wardens still exists and I end up with 'Nothing Further'. Will more options appear later? Are they waiting for a trigger? Or is something messed up? The same with Wynne and questions about The Circle. The reason I ask, is that in the first play-through it took me a while to realize I WOULD NOT be getting further dialogue options if I didn't have that Flemmeth conversation with Morrigan.

I am using Dialogue Tweaks, because reading here convinced me it was needed, as was Morrigan Restoration Pack and Zev Dialogue Patch. Now I'm wondering if I didn't follow the compatibility directions correctly.

And no, for the record I haven't played through first without those dialog mods. I didn't see the point in NOT using fixes, when there were bugs that would apparently annoy the heck out of me.

It is not caused by the Dialog Tweaks, it is caused by shoddy coding on the part of Bioware. It is normal and you do not need to repeat because if you do you will be stuck in a permanent loop :wallbash: In most cases but not all, when an option for further dialogue becomes available, you will be able to access it regardless of whether you have completed previous dialogues. There may also come a time when you have exhausted all possible dialogues with your companions.

Thank you RustyBlade. Though there's much sighing on my end at the 'shoddy coding'. I waited and waited to buy the game, hoping I'd get a more stable/patched version. And now I'm having flashbacks to Microsoft.

Sometimes the loop can work to your advantage as there are times when the dialogue line splits and without that shoddy coding you would not be able to see the other side of the line until your next game. It's one of those clouded silver linings :whistling:
