mhahn123
Yep load order looks much more correct now...so that's obviously not the problem anymore. Glad we got BOSS working properly for you at least. I wish I had some ideas on how to fix the crashing problem for you, but I don't see anything obvious that would be the cause right now. It sounds like a real pain but it might be a good idea to just uninstall Oblivion ...completely...and then re-install again. That's one sure way to sort out the crashing problem. Because you mentioned using Wrye to install some items and NMM to install others...my only straw to grasp here is something improperly installed. A lot of "help" messages are posted in these forums due to problems with using NMM as an Oblivion mod installer. Most Oblivion mods are older than NMM and are simply not formatted to be installed using NMM, that may be the root cause of all your misery. This is just a guess but at this point it can't hurt to try. If and when you uninstall and successfully reinstall Oblivion, I would then suggets using Wrye to install all of your mods. You will know for sure they are installed properly, and they can be uninstalled very easily later using Wrye. Hope this helps.
OpenWorldAddict
Yeah, I was considering doing a complete wipe of my plugins and starting again. Since I am moving house soon, I may wait to do all that work until I am setup in the new place... we'll see. I may use OBMM for the other mods because setting up Bain packages for Wrye Bash to install that are not already set up seems like a pain. (I am not that experienced with Wrye Bash to begin with. This was the first time I ever used it to install mods. Most of the time I either use NMM, OBMM, and MO (and even OBMM with creating OMODs can be a challenge sometimes), and I just use Wyre Bash typically to create Batch patches and use it in conjunction with the TES Edit programs for troubleshooting.) What I am thinking of is only installing the Better Cities packages first than seeing if they work. Then insalling the Unique Landscapes one esp at a time and installing the compatibility patches for that. Then after that just installing all the other mods one at time with each associated patch and just keep testing until I find the problem, if a problem comes up. That way it will be easier to diagnose. However, that will be a ton of work, and it might not be something that I will be able to do in the time of one evening. Thanks for your valuable help despite it not working in the end anyway. Edited December 11, 2014 by OpenWorldAddict
mhahn123
Your idea about the installing one at a time is actually a very good one. And is the method experienced modders will always suggest. Maybe two to three mods at a time to speed things up. That way it's still easy to track down a problem. Use whatever mod manager you are fluent and comfortable with. OBMM still works fine and I use it for my personal playtime setup. But it's a good idea to learn Wrye, especially for testing and modding. Wrye does a much better job of uninstalling things cleanly...so I use it for my testing and modding install. Or you can use both of those together with no problems either. subtledoctor
Yeah no disrespect to Nexus but NMM just seems kind of half-assed. My recent install has over 200 .esps, and my solution for installation was something like this: 1) Install utilities like OBMM, Wrye Bash, OBSE, tes4ll, tes4lodgen.2) Start Wrye, initialize the 'Installers' tab. Quit. 3) Move mods into the 'Bash Installers' directory.4) Open Wrye, install stuff, but also note mods that are better off NOT being installed by Wrye. (This is an art, not a science, but things like the UOP .exe files, etc.) Move them from the 'Bash Installers' directory to a 'non-Bash' directory. Also note mods that, even if you can find them BAIN-ified, just do better as OMODs. (This includes DarnUI, Realistic Fatigue, a few others.) Move them into OBMM's 'mods' directory.5) Open OBMM, install those OMODs. 6) Close OBMM and then install the last few things in that 'non-bash' directory manually. Yes manually. Even in this age of NMM/OBMM/Wrye, some stuff is better off just being dumped into the data folder.7) Run BOSS. 8) Open OBMM next to your BOSS log and move any stragglers that BOSS didn't recognize to where you think they should go. Now, in OBMM, put a check next to all the plugins you want activated. 9) Open Wrye again a build your bashed patch.10) Make sure everything looks good in Wrye, then play the game. If you're using OBSE, make sure the loader is installed correctly. I had one OMODS that wouldn't activate without the non-Steam OBSE loader, do I moved it into my game directory to install the mod. But then my (Steam) game wouldn't run until I remembered to remove the unnecessary loader.
