I would like a Sload

Well I was totally off. Is there a concept drawing of a sload anywhere? If they're a cross between a slug, a human and an octupus they're probably going to be a pain to model. I suppose you could simply modify a troll to have octopus features though - they're fairly close to the ground and move in a handily strange way.

If you want to know exactly what a sload looks like play Redguard, N'Gasta is a sload and yes I want both the model and the texture. I don't think animations would be a problem it only has to slither like a slug and cast magic.

Texture = easy

Model = not so easy

Animations = impossible

To get ANY animations to work, you would need the proper settings in the model. I hope these things have 2 arms and 2 legs, or you're looking at another problem. If they do, even doing some heavy alterations to one of the standard face meshes would take alot of work to look right, and the tentacles would kinda hang there clipping with everything. If they aren't something that has human looking arms, torso, groin, and legs you're looking at the impossible. First, you need the meshing done, then you need to add animation keys to the mesh. Then you need the animations to work on those keys. Then, since this is considdered a creature now, you better hope that this thing never talks. If it does, you better just go ahead and get familiar with this as once the improbable task of meshing and animating is done, you'll need to figure out how to make that work with your mod.

I am sorry to be so difficult I new it would be hard but I didn't think it would be this hard. The guys that did Giants for Morrowind seemed to be able to make it work Oblivion can't be that different all it has to do is attack with magic and slide toward the player it wouldn't speak because they don't actually have mouths so face animations would not be needed. Would it help if I described the quest? you might get a better idea as to what I want it to do.

The main thing keeping anything like this from working is the lack of decent meshing options. Until that is done, none of the many requests for all this stuff can really be looked into.

So is that why people are just retexturing meshes instead of making original ones?

I'd say it's part of it, another part deals with having a meshing program available, and being able to use it. A third part is that weapon, shield, and helmet meshes are easier to do since they don't have to have their verticies bend and move with animations. Clothing and armor on the otherhand requires not only creating the mesh, but also making it bend and deform properly. There are maybe only 4 or 5 people who have actually managed to do any of this. As you can imagine, they are either busy doing just that, or are waiting on proper tools to be released so that their job is easier.

New animations on the otherhand are totally impossible right now because the coding that the .kf files use hasn't been figured out.

Just saying you want something, and being able to actually do it are two very different things. Just look at the forums, there are alot of people requesting various meshes. Granted, most of them are silly, self-centered requests based on what "they" want, but even the decent ones which are related to you know... actual content can't really be looked into due to the very small amount of people who can do anything.

  • 1 year later...

At least look them up, I was looking if anyone actualy made a sload, I have known about them for a while and after reading an ingame book in sload language, I decided to check again, this is all about the sload http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tamriel:Sload as you can see they do slouch a little, but are mostly humanoid. The arms and legs could be placed exactly above each other and still make it work using the basic humanoid form, just add the shape of the body onto the skeleton and it could work. They do walk, just they usualy stay in water because they are so fat their fat could crush their bodies (lol). But they can walk on land. I would make a mod based on these if I had the race, or even if they were creatures you could script them to talk as stated above.

I decided to post on this nearly 2 year old thread because it was the only one that popped up in search, and it answers most questions people would have.

Concept art doesn't really fit the description. The CA looks more like a cross between a pitbull and Barney. The description seems to be more toward something squid-like.

Regardless, anything like this would probably need to be created as a creature since all races share the same body meshes. Although there have been some significant advancements as far as meshing goes, re-creating a creature from scratch is still more than most would be willing to take on without specific purpose. The task is lessened if the creature could be made to fit an existing skeleton, but in this case, that probably won't work. But possible, incase it matters.

As a race, it would have to be heavily humanified... and require a new head model, something which I think hasn't been successfully done.

fitting it on a completely human skeleton to use as a player model may not work so well, yet to use it as your character would not be too exiting, since it would need its own clothing set, and since I dont think they use clothing, it would not be as interesting, but they would be nice for a quest based mod, as a speaking creature.

I just had a thought, maybe the Sload and Peryite are connected somehow, Peryite is supposedly the prince of pestilence, and the Sload created the Thrassian Plague upon Tamriel in 1E2200, killing more than half of the population.
