jjoh1004
I've been getting into modding with the GECK but now i want to take it to a newer level. I just downloaded NifSkope on my PC so that i MIGHT be able to create new meshes and textures on Fallout 3. I dont know where to start with this program. I looked at a few websites that try to explain, but like i said IM NEW  . Meaning illiterate to all of this creation stuff. If someone is willing to help me get started that would be great. Let's say i have a piece of armor i downloaded as an esp. file but now i want to change up the textures and the mesh itself a little. How would i go about that with this program? Thanks in advance. :D
gunnars2
so, are you thinking about completely editing stuff? such as making a longer barrel on a gun, for that you need blender but nifskope can be usefull, you should start with Adding Silencers To Weapons
jjoh1004
thanks for the link. i give silencing guns a whirl. But yes, i am planning on doing all sorts stuff like extending barrels and just overall mesh creating. Not sure of all the things i can do with NifSkope. never used it before. And im also wondering what i can use to create custom textures. Sorry for my ignorance
jjoh1004
So i was following the instructions given by the mentioned link for putting silencers on a weapon. Got the instructions down pretty easily, but when i load my complete nif. into my GECK in any way it causes the geck to crash and stop working and closes me out of the program. When i Load any nif. file it shows up with no textures and is completely white. This was a mentioned effect that happens when NifSkope cant find the texture files for the mesh. It's weird, my custom nif. files load in NifSkope just fine but wont work in Geck. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? You need to add the BSA Texture archives as Texture sources in order to show the textures (if you using many mods it's suggested you give data/textures as source as well). About your crash issue: Nobody can tell you without seeing the nif file and see what you did wrong. There are plenty of reasons how you can mess up a mesh with nifscope. Even Nifscope may look easy at first, it needs some experience to do more advanced things and most importently you have to keep the data structure and the right shader settings. I suggest you start nifscope with static objects to learn the basics. Weapons and Armors require to link your mesh to bones, what is much more complicated. jjoh1004
How would you add BSA Texture archives as a texture source? Would that be done in Nifskope or would i extract the textures out and add them to my Texture folder?

Hint: there's a very easy to find link on that page that will answer your question and walk you through it.
