Guest Messenjah
Alright, so I am porting some weapon mods to Boomtown. The weapons I am looking into porting are: Thompson- CamonDesert Eagle- Vashand a few others. The problem is that these weapons are packed inside of other weapon packs and mods and I would rather keep all of the data in one esm file. So, I was wondering if this would cause any issues with other weapon mods? Say, I add the Desert Eagle XIX and name everything exactly as it is in another mod.... will this cause conflicts with the other mod or will the just see them as the same item? Tubal
Fistly I'm assuming you have either obtained permission to use other people's work, or permission is given explicitly in readmes. Secondly: no, there wont be any problems as far as the mods themselves are concerned. If you place the assets (models, textures, sounds) in the same folders as the original mods it is possible that an update to the original will also affect your mod, eg if the skin is changed for the original mod it will be changed for your mod too. This can both be a benefit and a drawback.
Guest Messenjah
Hey, well Camon I have permission from and Vash I sort-of have permission from via readme but I'm not EXACTLY sure what the fine lines are: *usage* the works contained within "vashdeagleV5.rar" are free to use with Fallout 3. permission is hereby granted to anyone who wishes to include these works in conjunction with a "pack"under the terms of: A. any and all contributing author of each work to be used are credited to their contributions and displayed in plain view within the description of the release and the Readme.txt accompanying the release. B. the artistic works used from "vashdeagleV5.rar" remain intact and as they came originally.NO reskins/recolors/mesh edits will be permitted for public download without prior confermation from the original artist. PERIOD C. the works contained within "vashdeagleV5.rar are never to be used for profit. at any time at the discretion of the authors of the works contained in "vashdeagleV5.rar" these permissions may be revoked Ok, I don't plan to edit or change or edit the mesh and I have absolutely no problem at all with crediting him and any other authors involved. I just don't know if I will be allowed to use it in a mod that is NOT a weapon pack or if I am allowed to copy the data from the esp into my esm file so that I don't have to include a bunch of third party esp files, keeping my mod as clean as possible. I would also prefer it use .44 ammo but I am fine if I need to use one of the ammo mods in conjunction with my mod if he insists on the .50 cal ammo. I'm going to contact him, I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't conflict first so that I don't waste his and my time. :)
Tubal
He seems mostly concerned with credit and the art, not the code. I'd say you're free to make your own ESP/ESM. Trying to contact the artist anyway is a good idea. If nothing else I'm sure he wants to know how his work is being used. I know i would. :)
