My Battlemage

Morning all :)

First off, I normally play quick nimble characters with the bow and light armor but I thought I would try a Battlemage kind of character.

So here is the make up of the character and the issues its causing.

Race:

Breton/Female

Strenght - 60

Intel - 60

Willpower - 60

Agility - 40

Speed - 48

Endurance - 57

Pers - 40

Luck - 50

Major Skills:

Armorer - 39

Athletics - 35

Blade - 60

Block - 37

Heavy Armor - 41

Conjuration - 76

Restoration - 49

Current Level : 14

Issues being, it was all good and fun up until level 8-9 when things were getting incredibly harder to kill and it feels as if my Sword is doing jackshit and when I get hit with like a troll it takes 1/4 my health off, that is with a full dwarwen armor set and a 15% and 5% shield spell and blocking......

I also have never had a +5 during a level up EVERYTHING is +2 except luck and personality, I know how to easily control getting +5's but I cant, I need to conjur for help, I need to heal.....I need to swing my sword and be hit since thats the whole point lol.

Not to mention its slower than a week in the jail, I actually take my armor off and equip it during fights, in the meantime I wear a robe of perfection (12%) as a minor defence while I run about.

Is my character leveling properly with those Attributes at that level? Feels as if everything is getting stronger and I am just staying the same :'(

Evening (here  )

Well. I played with a mage once. and found it was very hard to level up as you mention. You could install a mod like Mighty Magick (be warned other NPC's/Creatures are stronger with magic too) to make magic more powerful. But thats all I can really add to this, because I rarely play as a mage....

See was thinking of adding a mod like Mighty Magicka BUT the only magic I use is a conjuration and restoration with a few weak alteration spells and soultrap......and it seems Mighty Magicka mainly effects destruction magic :( which I dont use unless my katana is out of charge and the damn eretheal are coming out the wazoo :)

So from your experiance, you think my character will be ok in the long run? I normally play to level50 or so.

Any character can succeed in the end if you stick with it long enough. I often roll dice and generate some really non-optimal characters. The vanilla game is really hard between level 10 and 20. Some people call it the terrible teens. You will have to be really careful during that time-period. By the time they reach level 25 or 30, most characters will be powerful enough and well-equipped enough to handle most things.

So if you are having fun, just keep on playing and enjoy the challenge.

If you are not having fun, then start a new character or use some cheat mods to make you tougher and deadlier.

Remember the armor penalty for magic. A 15% shield spell with 65% efficiency is .15 * .65 = 9.75% shield. You may very well need to train your heavy armor to increase you spell efficiency before you're effective in battle while wearing it, or train your magic skills without wearing armor first. When I was a Spellsword/Breton I leveled my combat skills exclusively in the lower levels and didn't touch magic (except Restoration) until about level 15. It becomes harder to train combat skills, especially armor, as your levels increase.
